10. "What causes the most harm in the world, but is completely avoidable?"
Ibis: I agree with Risu. Our natural desire to do things we like, things that are easy/result in comfort, or things that make us feel good(like eating chocolate) are sometimes difficult to ignore. For example, the world(or at least France) would have been way better off if Napoleon hadn't given in to his temptation and desire for power. If he had to temptation for such things, then he probably would have been a brilliant leader that would have stayed in power for as long as he was needed.
Everyday you hear of things that people do because of their natural desires or temptations, such as a bank robber giving in to greed by robbing the nearest bank. Without temptation, there would be so many problems avoided(or if people just managed their wishes).
Risu: Okay, so I believe the answer to the question is temptation.
We are tempted to steal, tempted to fight, to lie, and to cause people harm. Every day we face different temptations. The good thing is that we can resist these urges.
I will be the first to admit that I've eaten so much fudge I felt sick, it happens. I've let my anger cloud my judgment on more than one occasion and come to regret not practicing more self control.
Leaders become obsessed with power, corporations with money, and stars with fame. The sad thing is that it is so easy to fall into temptation. It's also fairy easy to resist the temptations placed before you (depending on the circumstance).
A good thing to do would be to write a set of morals for yourself as Ibis stated in an earlier chapter. When angry, recite them to calm down. If you are put in a position of power, check yourself and your actions to be sure they don't violate your code.
There are so many little ways to resist the temptations in life. We just need a reason to avoid them once, then a reason to keep on avoiding them.
