Jane went out on the balcony, still thinking of what had happened. She then had a vision: everything was red and the Aether was calling to her. She reached out to touch it, but was interrupted by the arrival of guards.

"Jane Foster, you need to come with us," Tyr, the main guard, said.

Meanwhile, Odin discussed the matter with his council of men in the throne room. They all faced a holographic image of the palace.

"We are still unable to restore the palace shields. Our artillery cannot detect them, even Heimdall cannot see them. My King, we are all but defenseless," Fandral said.

That's when Thor entered.

"She's your prisoner now?" he questioned.

Odin saw him and turned away.

"Leave us," he told the council.

They obeyed and Odin went down the stairs to talk with his son.

"I do not wish to fight with you," Odin replied.

"Nor I with you. But I intend to pursue Malekith," Thor stated.

"We possess the Aether. Both parts of it. You do know Jamie has it?" Odin asked.

"I do and since she is in the dungeon already, you had no need to have her locked up like you did Jane," Thor said.

"Malekith will come to us," Odin remarked.

"Yes. And he will destroy us," Thor responded.

"You over-estimate the power of these creatures," Odin said.

"No, I value our people's lives. I'll take Jane and Jamie to the Dark World and draw the enemy away from Asgard. When Malekith pulls the Aether from them, it will be exposed and vulnerable, and I will destroy it and him," Thor explained.

"And if you fail? You risk this weapon falling into the hands of our enemies," Odin pointed out.

"The risk is far greater if we do nothing. His ship could be over our heads right now, we would never even know it," Thor remarked.

"If and when he comes, his men will fall on ten thousand Asgardian blades," Odin stated.

"And how many of our men shall fall on theirs?" Thor asked.

"As many as are needed!" Odin shouted, leaned over his staff, regained himself and continued, "We will fight! Til the last Asgardian breath. Til the last drop of Asgardian blood."

"Then how are you different from Malekith?" Thor lightly challenged.

Odin laughed and answered, "The difference, my son, is that I will win."

Odin then left as Thor watched him. Thor knew that what Odin was doing would get more Asgardians killed.
