A Difference (Discontinued)

Chapter Four

       "Wh- what?! No..." Tyra says quickly, avoiding eye contact with Leo. "Oh, alright.." he responds with a slight disappointment. Tyra seems to notice this and looks around guiltily as Katelyn just eyes them both before sighing. She walks forward to go outside and Tyra and Leo follow behind her. Katelyn quickly spots Ana, Dawn, Jason, and Derek speaking to each other. Dawn looks up from her phone and waves them over with a smile. "Hey, umm, Tyra?" Leo says and Tyra turns to look at him, stopping as Katelyn continues to walk toward their friends.
"What's up?" she asks nervously. "Well, my ride is here and I didn't want to keep her waiting.. I just wanted to tell you," he says to Tyra. "Oh, okay. Bye Leo," she says. Leo just waves before walking over to a brown car. A woman, seemingly in her forties, sits inside. She smiles at Tyra as Leo gets in. Tyra flashes a grin towards the woman before walking to her other friends. "You fucking like him! Why didn't you just tell him the truth? He obviously likes you too..." Katelyn tells her. "Katy... Keep your voice down.... Maybe I do like him, but I only just met Leo," Tyra explains. "Wouldn't that be weird if I just began liking the dude after I met him today?" she continues. "No. Jason and I literally began making out the second day I knew him," Katelyn says. "You're exaggerating," Ana says to Katelyn, but she only shakes her head. "No... It's true," Tyra confirms solemnly. "I'm just waiting to catch you two kissing in a closet..." Katelyn says with a smirk. "You're so goddamn weird, Katelyn..." Tyra says with a little laugh. "And that's why you love me!" she exclaims in response.
       "Bye guys!" Tyra says to them as she steps into Katelyn's car. "Can I come to Libby's party?" Katelyn asks once Tyra gets in her car. Tyra realizes that her cousin's party was tonight after forgetting in class. "Oh, sure. It'll be nice to have someone with me..." she says, accepting Katelyn's request. "Thanks!" she says happily. "You'll have to be at my house by four, though," Tyra tells her. "Will do! I have the perfect outfit..." Katelyn says excitedly. Tyra laughs at this when she sees her house in the distance. Katelyn pulls up and Tyra opens the door to get out. "Remember! Four o'clock!" Tyra exclaims as Katelyn drives away. She enters her home and goes into the living room to greet her mother. "Hey!" Tyra says, leaning down to hug her mum. "Hi, sweetheart! How was school today?" she asks kindly. "It was okay. There was this new kid named Leo, and he was pretty nice," Tyra explains. "That's cool, sweetheart!" her mum says. "Wade is upstairs, by the way," she continues. Wade is Tyra's nine year old brother who had gotten sick and stayed home. Tyra climbs the stairs and opens the door to his room quietly. "Wade...." she whispers. He jumps up out of bed, screaming boo in an attempt the scare his older sister. Tyra screamed, though wasn't actually showing any sign of being scared. She laughed and Wade ran up to hug her. "How was your day, kiddo?" she asks Wade, wrapping her arms around him. "It was good! Except for the fact that I was sick.... Daddy came over while he was having a break at work to deliver some soup for me," Wade explains to her. "Well, wasn't that nice of him?" Tyra says. "Yeah! It really was. And the soup was pretty good, too!" he exclaims. Tyra laughs and lets go of her younger brother. "Well, I have to do my homework..." Tyra tells him. "Can I help you?" Wade asks happily. "Sure!" she answers and they both walk to her room.
       One dreadful hour later, Tyra finishes her homework with a laugh. Wade had made the experience better with his constant jokes. After this, though, Tyra shooed Wade out of her room to get dressed for the party. She put on a dark red dress with a black belt around it. She combed her hair quickly before walking down the stairs. "I'm going to Libby's party now!" she calls to her mother. "Okay, sweetheart!" Tyra's mother says back. Tyra leaves the house and watches as Katelyn pulls up. She wears a light blue dress and her black hair is put in a neat braid. Tyra enters the car and they both drive to Libby's party. It was located at the beach, which made Tyra and Katelyn also put swimsuits on underneath the dresses. Once there, Tyra and Katelyn step out from the car and walk toward the sand. "Tyra!" Libby exclaims and walks over to them. Tyra hugs her cousin and Katelyn hugs her as well. "Hey Libbs!" Tyra says. All of them head toward the water where people are either sitting on the sand talking, at the food table with their friends, swimming, or dancing. Tyra locates herself closer to the water as she begins to sit on the sand. The sun begins to set and the sky becomes a brilliant mix of pink and orange. Tyra feels someone sit beside her. "Beautiful, isn't it?" Tyra turns to look at the person beside her and recognizes the face of Leo. He smirks at her. Tyra begins to turn red and Leo looks at the sunset. He then turns back to Tyra before placing his lips against hers.
