-Your Pov-
You sat on the bullhead, and then pulled out your scroll for the third time in the past five minutes. You pretend you're checking the time, but really you're waiting to see if Weiss is going to text you back. As cool as you've been trying to play it, you know how much rides at stake on how quickly you can get to the mansion. Weiss may hate her father, but the man has his ways. For years, Weiss and Winter blindly did everything he said, and now the same thing may happen if you give it time. And right now, Weiss must be scared out of her mind from the terror of losing Beacon, and almost losing the people closest to her, which means her mind would be susceptible to pretty much any influence, especially from her father.
Some small part of you was grateful that Jacques had agreed to take Weiss back. Even if it was for all the wrong reasons, it had to count for something. Even if Weiss was in mental danger, then she wasn't in any physical danger because her father had brought her back home. The only reason you were able to sleep at night was really because you knew Weiss wasn't going to be hurt any further. Still, you had made a mental note to punch Jacques in the face at the first chance you got. The man had torn you and Weiss apart years ago, and you knew he was trying his best right now to do the same thing.
You felt your hands begin to shake when you thought about Weiss being taken away from you again. This isn't the first time your hands have started to shake. Your breathing becomes ragged, and then you have to make a conscious effort to calm down. Ever since the fall of Beacon, you had been so scared of losing Weiss. You would wake up screaming, having to confirm from everyone you knew to make sure Weiss was still alive. And each time you had one of those nightmares, you knew deep down why you kept having them. Because you hadn't been strong enough to defend the ones you loved.
Thinking this, you punch the wall of the bullhead. " Damn it," you mutter, thinking again how Weiss could have died. How your weakness could have cost her her life. " Damn it all," you mutter again, thinking about how you broke the promise you had made to yourself to protect her, how you had broken the promise you had made to Winter to protect her sister.
Your body begins to tremble, and then you reach into your pocket, and pull out a pack of cigarettes. Placing one in your mouth, you use your Semblance to ignite it. Breathing in, you let out a long breath of smoke to calm yourself down. Your lungs burn, and then you feel yourself relaxing. Ever since the destruction of Beacon, you had taken up smoking whenever you thought about the idea how everyone could have died because you were too weak.
When the bullhead lands, you step out and thank the pilots. You start to walk around and look for Winter and Ironwood. The two of you asked them to meet so they could personally present you the medal and ribbon, as well as your reforged weapon. As much as you blame yourself for everything that happened to Weiss, you are excited to see the updates that they were able to make to your weapon.
Arriving at the location specified, you get a quick presentation of the medal, and then Winter pulls you into an awkward hug, before quickly pulling away. " I can't say it enough, but thank you so much for keeping Weiss safe," she says, and then you look down and start rubbing the back of your head, embarrassed that Weiss could have died because of you.
" I'm going back to the Schnee family tonight," she says. " Weiss and I have been training in secret. She already wants to get back into the fight. Would you like to join us in the training? I know you want to be stronger to protect her."
Looking up, she manages a small smile. " I know you must be blaming yourself for everything that happened to her. But, I've talked to Weiss. She doesn't blame you for any of it, and she wouldn't want you to blame yourself for it. It isn't your fault (y/n)."
She starts to walk off, and then you're left wondering what to do before you see Weiss tonight. As Winter is almost out of the room, she turns back to you. " And stop smoking. It's a horrible habit, and Weiss hates the smell of it." With that, she leaves the room fully, and then you look at the pack before throwing it away.
-Weiss Pov-
I stand in the mirror, smoothing out my dress, and running a brush through my hair. I've been at this for about an hour. I need every detail to be absolutely perfect. Why? Because I heard from Winter that (y/n) is going to be with us for the training. I haven't seen him since the battle of Beacon. I've been worried about him ever since I had to leave him in the hospital, and this is the first time I'll see him walking again. A lump forms in my throat when I think about how close he had been to dying.
Ever since the battle of Beacon, I've been berating myself for not being able to keep him safe. I know how much he tries to protect me, but I also wanted to keep him safe as well. He had always been stronger than me and a better fighter, but I wanted things to be different when we met at Beacon. I wanted to stop him from being hurt again. It's why I was so desperate to have Winter train me. " I'm going to protect you this time,"I say to myself as I head out to meet him and Winter.
