Didi's POVToday was the day! I was so excited, but at the same time nervous. I had to give my 100%.
"Come on Diya it'll get late! " my aunt called me.
"Coming! " I said.
"Let's go? " she asked.
"Yeah." I said.
My aunt said she would drop me to the Syco office and she'd come to pick me as well so I didn't have to wait for a cab.
"All the best! I know you'll make it! Don't worry. " my aunt said.
"Thank you so much. Bye. I'll call you when I'm done. " I said.
"Bye. " She said.My nervousness increased as I got closer to the office. But I knew that I couldn't let the nervousness take over me and I had to be confident.
At the office.
I did a few formalities at the reception and waited for Simon. I saw him coming and took a few deep breaths to calm myself.
"Ah Diya you're here, good afternoon." he said.
"Good afternoon, Sir. " I said.
"So, how are you? " he asked.
"I'm very good, Sir. You? "
"I'm fine. So, should we go into the office? " he said.
"Yeah, Sure. " I said."So, as I said, I heard your demos and I was quite impressed,"
I nodded as he continued.
"For how long have you been learning Music? " he asked.
"I was in the 7th grade when I started learning Indian Music and since then I've even been writing english songs and learning to produce music. It's been almost 1 and a half year that I've been studying at Berklee. " I said.
"Nice, very nice, Diya. Well, now I'd like to show you a few studios. You can do whatever you want, I just want to see how you work, produce music and all. " he said.
"Okay, Sir. " I said.I walked into the studio and a smile crept onto my face. Making music, writing songs, this is what I love and doing this makes me feel like home. This is where I belong. I knew that I couldn't let go of this opportunity.
"Go on" he said and I nodded.
I started playing the keyboard and also played to him other songs of mine on the guitar. After about 1hr, I walked out of the studio.
After about another 1hr of meeting other producers, songwriters and singers, Simon said, "I'm happy, you didn't let me down, and I can see that you definitely have the potential. "
The inner me: OMG! I can't believe this!
Real me:
"Thankyou so much, Sir."
"So, I'd like to tell you, that,... "
"You got this! " he continued.
"Oh my god! Thank you so much, Sir! You've really helped me make my dreams come true! " I exclaimed.
"You just need to come tomorrow and sign a few papers. " he said.
"Yes, Sir I'll be there. " I said.
"You'll be having a 1 year internship. How are you going to complete the last six months at Berklee?" he asked.
"I already thought about it Sir and I've decided that I'll complete the last six months online. I spoke to my teachers too. I'll only have to go there for a few examinations." I said.
"Okay, that's good then. When your internship starts, you'll be working with someone you may be a fan of, and it's more than one artist. But I won't tell you now. " he said.
"Okay, Sir. I would love to know now. But there's no problem in it being a surprise, I guess." I said and he nodded his head.
"Don't forget to come tomorrow to sign the papers. " he said.
"It's impossible for me to forget it Sir!" I said.
"Okay, okay. I'll see you tomorrow. Bye. Oh, and congratulations too. " he said.
"Thank you so much. Bye, Sir. " I said.I called my aunt and told her to pick me up.
As she walked towards me, I ran to her and hugged her and said, "I got it, I got it, I got it! "
"I knew you'd get this! I'm so proud of you! " she exclaimed.
"I'm so happy. " I said.
"Since I already knew that you'd get this, I made you your favourite dishes for dinner to celebrate! " she said.
"Awww! Thank you so much! I love you! " I said.I went home and relished all the yummy dishes she had made. I called my mum and dad and they were super happy about it!
After sometime I got an email from Syco saying I'll have to start working from the coming Thursday.
I couldn't help but wonder which artist I'll be working with. Anyways, this was the best day of my life and I'm sure I fell asleep with a smile on my face.
