I can't remember who requested this sorry! Hope you guys enjoy, this one is a little different to how I normally write. The picture does give it away a bit.
My hands brush loving through Aragorn's hair, still thick and strong and soft after all these years, and although the colour had long faded, now shimmering with silver and white, I still adored these moments where we could simply be husband and wife in the quiet of our own space.
He stirred against me, his grey eyes unfocused for a moment before he blinks and realises where he is, letting out a low hum and letting his eyes drift shut again.
I smile. "Bad dreams again my love?"
"No," He grumbled softly. "Just dreams. I almost thought..." He trails off, losing himself in thought.
"Thought what?" I prompted gently, my fingers moving to brush his cheeks, causing him to open his eyes again to look at me.
"I almost thought that I was alone." He said quietly. "That you had never been here all these years for me and I had no way of carrying on."
Smiling, I bent and kissed him softly. "I promised you long ago Aragorn that I would be with you till the end and beyond. Nothing will ever take me from your side."
Aragorn stares at me for a long moment before a slight grimace of pain crosses his expression and he struggles to sit up. I help him and his hand grips my arm tightly.
"My time is close..." He said, trailing off even as the words left his mouth. "Surely you do not wish to see me fade away into nothing?"
"We have had this discussion many times my love," I said, standing before him smoothing his hair and straightening his clothes before placing a kiss on the top of his head. "And I am not about to let you face this battle alone."
Aragorn looks at me, his eyes crinkling with a slight smile. "How do I deserve you?"
I kissed him, a kiss that we had shared many times, one of promises and love and caring and understanding. The years hadn't lessoned any of the feelings behind it and even as Aragorn gave a chuckle because it successfully answered his questioned without saying anything, it left us both smiling.
"You always know what is right uiveleth." He said warmly and I help him to his feet. "No matter what it is."
"I try." I said with a smile, looping my arm through his. "What does my king wish to do today?"
Aragorn seems to think, looking at the warmth streaming in through the window. "I want to see my home."
There was sharp tug in my chest and I was glad for a moment that he wasn't looking at me, because I knew that it would give away what I was going through, despite my calm outlook.
I managed to regather myself before he looked at him again, sharing a smile. "Alright, let us go outside."
There was never any sense of fragility in Aragorn's step as he left our room. Once he was out those doors, he was the strong king, one that had led a time of peace, a king that people respected and built Gondor into a new strength, one that hadn't been seen for a long age. He was a man that always walked with purpose and pride, but never in a closed manner, his people were free to speak to him should they ever need to.
It always made me love him more.
My heart ached as I watched him today, a smile on his lips as he talked amongst his people, the sun kissing him brightly, making the mood seem so much happier than what it truly was.
News of the king's failing health was no secret to the people.
There was a slight shuffle next to me and I looked around with a slight start, blue eyes meeting mine with a mischievous but serious grin, causing him to sigh and smile. "Eldarion."
