Christmas Fic!

Warnings: Fluff, both of them are dorks, smidge of angst if you squint

Thorin stopped halfway through his sentence, looking around the room quickly before sighing, an affectionate smile coming to him. "Where is Y/N?"

The other dwarves in the room looked around as well, suddenly realising that you weren't there and none of them had noticed until now.

Balin chuckles next to him. "I believe the Queen was getting too flustered in here. She excused herself for a walk."

Thorin shakes his head, the smile not leaving him. "Very well, we will continue this tomorrow."

There were few protests, with Yule approaching, there were few that wanted to spend all day within meetings, discussing the running of Erebor, the King and Queen included.

"Which way did she head?" Thorin asked Balin quietly as everyone began to leave.

"Her usual," Balin smiles. "I'm surprised you even ask at this point."

Thorin chuckles. "Well, you never know, she does like to wander after all."

He wasn't in any rush as he walked through the halls of Erebor, greeting people as they passed, knowing that you weren't going anywhere in a hurry. On the way to you, he passed by the kitchens and grabbed two steaming mugs.

Tapping the door opened with his foot, he couldn't help but let his smile widen as he saw you on the balcony, eyes locked on the sea of white before you, a faint smile and look of wonder on your face.

Thorin nudges you slightly as he steps in next to you, making you start, before he hands you the steaming mug with a smile. "I'm going to have to start tying you down, just so you don't freeze to death out here."

You chuckle and take a sip from the mug. "I'd like to see you try, and besides, I'm rugged up. I mightn't have seen snow before, but I know how to take care of myself in the cold."

"Of that, I'm glad," He smiles. "But I'd still feel better if you weren't out here so much. The weather can change quickly out here, and I'd hate to think of you getting caught in some sort of storm and I'm not here."

"Thorin," You step closer to him, sliding your arm under his and entwining your fingers. "I grew up in the wilds dear, stuck in all sorts of situations, I think I can handle a weather change, whether I'm actually still inside Erebor's walls or not."

He laughs, giving your hand a squeeze. "Forgive an old king for worrying for his queen then."

"Old indeed," You kissed him. "You still have many years ahead of you yet, my love."

Thorin grins and pulls you back into a deeper kiss, which always did more to warm you than any drink or clothing could do.

"Would you like to join me for a walk?" Thorin asked, his lips hovering above yours. "We could see how the preparations are coming along?"

You beamed. "You're actually going to let me out there?"

He chuckles. "Only if you stay by my side."

Kissing him quickly, you practically bounce back, heading for the door. "No promises!"

Thorin laughs and follows after you, soon capturing your hand again as you walk towards the gates of Erebor, a slight chill growing in the air. It didn't worry either of you as you stepped outside, you properly, finally, able to take in the true sight of all the white around you.

It was unlike anything you'd seen before, and you weren't overly sure what to do with it all. The sound of it crunching under your feet made you smile, but when you almost slipped, your grip tightened painfully on Thorin's arm.

He chuckled, holding onto you. "And you wonder why I warned you about coming out by yourself."

"Oh, shush." You said, getting yourself balanced again. "I'll figure it out."

Once you were sure of your footing, you stepped away a little as Thorin began talking to one of the workers outside, focused on decorating the gates. This wasn't a normal tradition, to set up like this for Yule, but as it was the first since they'd reclaimed Erebor, and it was also your first, Thorin wanted to ensure it was special.

Thorin was talking away when he was stopped by giggling, and he was quick to look for you, only to break into a grin, finding you down in the snow, your arms and legs spread wide, moving them in the snow.

He trudges over to you, apologising to the worker. "That is a good way of getting yourself cold."

You continued to giggle, resting your hands over your chest. "Good thing I have a loving husband who enjoys keeping me warm then."

Thorin chuckles and sits down in the snow next to you. "I was starting to think you didn't feel the cold."

Sitting up, you slid next to him, snuggling in close. "I'd be complaining if I didn't have you around. I'd be forced to put up with the cold then."

He laughs, hugging you close. "Well, I did tell you not to leave my side."

"Yeah," You said lightly, a hint of amusement in your voice. "That is true. It gives me the perfect opportunity to do this."

Without warning, you moved quickly and dumped a large pile of snow on top of his head, only to find him moving at almost the same time, a handful of snow thrown in your face.

For a few confusing moments, through screams and laughter, there were more than a few concerned looks from workers nearby, as the King and Queen had a fight in the middle of the snow.

Eventually, the laughter was too much for both of you, collapsing into each other and just laughing together.

"Don't you think I know you better than that by now?" Thorin asked between trying to catch his breath.

You were reduced to giggles. "I still got you. You need to be quicker Thorin."

Thorin just laughs, resting his head on your shoulder, the two of you slowly easing into comfortable silence.

"Promise me it'll be like this every year," You said quietly. "That it'll just be this calm, this tranquil, and this beautiful."

"We can certainly try amrâlimê," Thorin said, pressing kisses into your shoulder. "We've got all the time in the world now, together, and we can spend this however you wish."

You smiled. "Does that mean I throw more snow on your head?"

Thorin chuckles. "I wouldn't say it too loud, you might insight Fili and Kili into a snow ball fight."

"I'll fight them if you will," You laugh. "I'm sure we could give them quiet a thrashing."

He continues to chuckles, giving your hand a squeeze. "Later, perhaps, for now, I think we should head inside to warm up a little. If I'm feeling the cold, you definitely are."

"I'm fine," You said, even as you shifted a little closer to him. "Besides, I'm liking watching them set up the gates, it look incredible."

Thorin nods. "It's going to be a very special Yule this year. The first one that has felt right in a long time."

You kiss his cheek softly, earning his gaze. "And we're here together."

He smiles and kisses you softly. "We're here together."

Hand in hand, you get toyour feet, slowly making your way back into Erebor, both still smiling, butboth also looking forward to another hot drink.
