Getting Fired

It was the chilly month of November. It was windy, and the leaves were turning different colours of orange and red. Everywhere in Quahog, where all these stories start for some reason, people were putting on their wool coats. And they were also buying turkeys, because November meant it was almost Thanksgiving, and everyone was in a panic to get the perfect Thanksgiving dinner ready. The next town over was no different. The townsfolk were hustling, bustling, and just plain fighting for turkeys. And Brian and Ellie's suite was the one of the busiest places of all.

" Brian, are you sure you've got the turkey covered? " Ellie asked, putting a plastic pumpkin in the windowsill. " Lois told me that you and Peter once got drunk and ate their turkey, and almost got yourselves killed trying to get a new one. " Brian looked up from his newspaper with a frown. " Okay, first of all, I was set up by Peter, and two, yes, I DO have a turkey! And I put it in a place where the puppies won't get to it, like the chocolates on Valentines Day. "

Brian was lying through his teeth. He didn't actually have a turkey. He was hoping to pick one up at work when he had the chance. Next to Christmas, Thanksgiving was one of the most stressful parts of the year for him since he got married to Ellie and the puppies came into the world. Speaking of work, it seemed Daniel was getting harder and harder on Brian and the other Stop 'N Shop employees. " No, no, no, you have to put this there so people will want to buy it! " and " No, no, no, peel the banana and re-peel it inside out so people will buy it not knowing it's moldy! I didn't  care how wrong that is, those bananas are stinking up the place! " are things you would often hear.

Luckily, Brian got permission to take a turkey home with him. Ellie breathed a sigh of relief as he placed it on the kitchen counter. " Thank god that's taken care of! I thought we'd have to have bread crumbs and corn as our Thanksgiving dinner! Good thing you Daniel let you take it home! " Brian laughed nervously. " You, uh... you knew? " Ellie smiled and winked. " A woman knows, Brian. A woman knows. By the way, the kids are doing all kinds of fun Thanksgiving crafts, making turkeys out of plates, making paper pilgrim outfits and belts, it's so cute. " Ellie said, cupping her hands over her heart. " Yecch. What's Stewie doing to them? They should be doing that stuff in PRESCHOOL! " Ellie put a hand on her hip. " Brian, they don't GO to preschool! " Brian watched the puppies run upstairs with their toys. " Another chapter, honey... another chapter in our lives. "

The excitement continued after dinner. " Boy, that was some heavy gravy. " Ellie muttered, rubbing her stuffed stomach while watching TV with the puppies. " I don't think I'm gonna finish the turkey on Thanksgiving. " Brian chuckled and put on his coat. " Yeah, well. I'm going out to check the mail. " When Brian came back, he was excited. " Hey, check it out. Peter and Lois invited us to their Thanksgiving dinner. " Ellie was shocked. " WHAT?! Couldn't they have asked us, first? I got all prepared for OUR dinner! " Brian shrugged. " Hey, it's no big deal. We can just have some kind of post-Thanksgiving dinner. "

The next day at work, Brian was peeling a banana and re-peeling it inside out when a worker came up to him. " Hey, Brian. Daniel wants to see you in his office. " Brian was surprised. " Uh... okay. I'll be right there. " He walked down to his bosses office, swallowing thickly. " Hey, Brian. Have a seat. Oh, and close the door. " Daniel greeted him. " Oh, uh... okay. " Brian said, and got himself settled. " Okay, so... are you doing something for Thanksgiving? " Brian nodded. " Ih... yeah. You know, the usual.  Me and Ellie are taking the kids up to Peter's house for Thanksgiving dinner. " Daniel sighed. " Listen, Brian, this is really hard for me to say, but, well... I'm gonna have to ask you to... " Brian's heart was beating. Don't say turn in my uniform, don't say turn in my uniform, don't say turn in my uniform... he thought to himself over and over and over again... " Work Thanksgiving. ".

Brian opened his eyes. " What? " On the inside he was relieved, but on the outside he was pretty pissed off. " What are you talking about? I can't work Thanksgiving! I already has to cancel one dinner, I can't cancel another. " Daniel sighed again. " Brian, I know your upset, but with all the last minute turkey sales, we need as many employees on deck as we can. " Brian nodded. " All right, Daniel. I agree. And I completely understand. "
