Getting into Aria's castle was the easiest part of the plan. Pandora had stopped time just enough for my team to slip past the guards unnoticed and for my army to get into position. As soon as we got inside, the first thing I'd noticed was how small her palace really was and the first thing that stuck out like a sore thumb was her 'dungeon' it was right next to the stairwell and left unguarded. I guess Aria's main concern was having everyone outside on the front lines than worrying about her captors escaping. The chamber door squealed open and the sound of shackles moving across the stone floor sounded faintly in the back. I formed a fireball in my right hand to use as light as the room was pitch black. We all walked alongside the long and narrow hall until we could see a single cell in the back but no one in sight. "Hello?" I called out softly into the darkness extending the fireball that was in my hand out to light up more of the cell. There was still a cold silence until the jingling of chains was heard again. A man appeared in the light of the fire behind the cell bars.
"Who's there?" The man said, his voice cracked.
"My name is Aimee, I'm.." I started to say but the man cut me off.
"Aimee, savior of Arel? Thank the heavens!" He said, a bright and hopeful smile forming on his face though he looked weak. That smile, it seemed familiar. That's when it finally clicked-
"Dad!" Caleb exclaimed running towards the cell, the man reaching towards Caleb and they locked into a longing embrace between the cell bars. "All these years, Aria kept you alive? I thought for sure she would have killed you." Caleb says. "Mom will be..." he started to say then quickly stopped himself.
"Oh my sweet Vivian, how is your mother?" He asks. Caleb looks over in my direction, his eyes starting to water. I walk to his side and rest a comforting hand in his shoulder. "She's - dead" Caleb swallows hard. His fathers expression falls just as Casey runs in.
"We've got company" she says.
"I know he sound of those footsteps" Caleb's dad says. " that's the man that guards me!" And sure enough a lanky man walks into the light holding a silver tray of food, but suddenly drops the tray with a loud and echoing clatter at the sight of us.
"Hello" I say in the most charming voice possible.
"Wh-who are you and what are you doing in here?" The man asks, pointing a shaky finger at us. "This place is off limits!" He straightens himself up trying to look and sound brave.
"Uh.." Casey starts to say but then trails off.
Jade quickly picks up where she leaves off to save Casey's stammer, "were new Scouts, Aria sent us down here to take Tom into a different area."
"Yeah, to avoid being found!" Casey chimes in, in the most awkward and unconvincing manner.
"No way! Any new orders from the queen would come by me first!" The man squeals.
Noah pushes himself off the wall that he'd been leaning on. "Give is the keys, or I'll get them from you myself" he says so sinister-like as a blue ball of magic energy forms in his left hand. And without hesitation the guard throws the keys into Noah's free hand and runs out of the area screaming in fear. And now everybody knows we're here. "What a little bitch" Noah scoffs walking over to the cell and unlocking it.
As we all like out of the chamber doors back into the castle lobby there is a loud commotion coming from outside the castle. The war has officially begun. The main entrance doors begin to rumble and shake as outsiders are trying to break back inside. With quick thinking I blast the door with ice magic forming a thick wall of ice so if anyone were to break though they'd have to wait until the ice thins out in a few hours.
"Dad, is there any way you know your way around?" Caleb asks and Tom nods.
"Yea, I know where Aria's quarters are, that's where she is right now, waiting for you. Though to get there you have to pass by Selena's quarters." He says.
"Selena?" I question.
"Your sister" he says.
"Oh right, how could I forget. Well you know Aria May have her own little secret weapon but I have two. Mommy has nothing on me." I say proudly.
"What about Selena's father?" Noah asks.
"Oh Xander. I'm afraid just after Selena was born, Aria killed him, he is no longer with us." And with that we started making our way up the stairway towards Selena's quarters. I'd ordered Caleb to take his father out to safety and far away from the battle grounds as he needed immediate medical attention and I unfortunately could not afford to give it to him in the time being.
Tom had given us the run down of the area, and what to expect on our way up. To my surprise, most of Aria's castle was left unguarded, was she really that confident with herself that she'd be able to get rid of me with my own half sister and herself? Or was she just that stupid?
Just as Tom had said, we reached Selena, who was starting out her balcony watching the war unfold below. " okay Casey, it's your time to shine" I say patting Casey on her back and judging her forwards. I'd created an illusion in the entry way so that we could all watch and listen but remain unseen, a trick I learned from Pandora.
"Selena?" Casey-as-me spoke and Selena turned around and faced her from a distance. Our plan was to confront her and try and play nice to see if we could get her to switch to our side, but if all else failed, I would step in and take over.
"Aimee?" Selena spoke timidly.
"Look, I just want to say I know Aria is using you as her secret weapon to either get me to switch sides or kill me. But I just want to say it doesn't have to be like that." Casey says. Selena looks as if she's seriously considering it.
"Go ahead then, persuade me" she says crossing her arms and leaning against a wall on the opposite side of the room. Her eyes lock into Casey's but I put all my defenses up as a precautionary as I start to feel strangely uneasy.
