Taken but not Forgotten

You're just like me

(Author's note: You don't have to listen to the song while reading this chapter. This is just the song that inspired the fight scene between Oryx and Agony.)

Agony and Roach returned to the place where they fought Cayde and Tevis.

"Where do we go from here?" Roach asked looking around,

"The portal." Agony said as she walked up to it. Roach stood besides her and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"For the Traveler." Roach said tightening his grip on her shoulder.

"For the people we protect." Agony replied as they walked through the portal. Agony and Roach appear behind a pair of golden doors. They push them open to reveal a bridge spanning a chasm. As the two walk across it, the bridge fades away behind them. Agony and Roach see a stone slab with a carving of Oryx on it. Agony walks around it and white flames appear on either side of a hidden pathway. Agony follows it, to end up in the Altar of Oryx.

Roach lags behind, looking around to see if there's anything else to see, anything that might help them understand Oryx, how to take down his army, any weakness of his ship. The only thing was the stone slab, and white flames that were not there before when they entered.

"Agony you seeing this?" Roach asked, no response, she must have gone ahead. Roach followed the flames only to hit a wall at the end.

"Scotty, give me some light." Scotty shined his light on what was blocking his path, a door. Roach tried to open it but it wouldn't budge.

"Agony? Agony where are you?"

"A little busy!" Agony said as she shot down taken.

"You are what the light brings to me? How pathetic." Oryx boomed as he watched Agony fight.

"Don't worry big guy. I've got a rocket with your name on it!" Agony yelled as she killed the last of the taken to look at Oryx.

"I am your new king. Kneel before me!" Oryx demanded.

"Never." Agony replied sternly, Orxy laughed. Agony heard a loud thud to her right, she turned to see a line of phalanx's pointing their shield at her. Agony was sent flying into the wall, her helmet started beeping and pain coursed through her body. Agony threw a smoke grenade on the floor and ran away while she was cloaked. Agony took the row of phalanx's out as the cloaking wore off.

"I only kneel for my Queen. The Queen that you slaughtered!"

"So you are the champion from the Reef then."

"And for the Traveler." Agony's response made Orxy laugh.

"With such darkness in your heart? You pathetic girl, you're just like me."

"I am nothing like you!" Agony roared. Orxy raised his hand and slowly curled it into a fist, and Agony felt a sharp spreading pain in her chest as she fell to her knees.

Roach stopped punching the door when it started to open, he took out his auto-rifle and cautiously walked in. Suddenly Orxy appeared in the small pool at the center of the Altar.

"Another sheep to the slaughter." Oryx mused.

"Where's my partner?" Roach demanded pointing his gun at Oryx. Oryx laughed as he moved to the side, to show a figure on their hands and knees, withering in pain. 

"It must be a new breed of taken." Scotty said as he looked at it

"Look closer." Oryx said as he gestured to the figure. Roach walked up to it and recognized who it was under the taken goop. Agony.

"What have you done to her?" Roach said as he shot at Oryx, he landed a few shots but Oryx disappeared.

"Nothing. Just unlocked her true potential." Roach knelt down besides Agony and placed his hand on her.

"Agony you have to fight this!" In response Agony grabbed Roach by the throat, stood up and tossed him across the room. Oryx appeared besides her and began to drain Roach of his light. Roach felt the darkness weigh him down. Roach took out his machine gun and began to shoot at Oryx. Once again, Oryx disappeared. Agony picked up her gun and walked over to Roach. Roach aimed his gun at Agony.

"Don't make me do this." Roach said as he backed into a corner. Roach felt the air around him heat up, when he looked down he was in the middle of a red circle. This was it for Roach. Killed by his own friend who was being controlled by the enemy. Roach took a deep breath, this was not the way he thought he would go. Suddenly Roach heard Oryx cry out in pain, a void arrow right in the eye. Agony was still covered in the taken goop, her bow distorted, but it was her.

"I am not your puppet." Agony began, taking a step towards Oryx, "I am not darkness." The taken goop slowly began to fall off, "I am a champion of the light and the Reef." Agony shot another arrow, hitting Oryx in the chest, "and I AM NOT like you!" Agony finished, firing her last arrow, and the last of the taken goop falling off of her. Oryx let out a frustrated yell. Suddenly Roach and Agony were standing in the middle of the pool, a thick fog surrounding them so they couldn't see past the little dome they were in. Agony took out her rocket launcher.

"Roach, I hope you can use your golden gun, because that bow took a lot out of me."

"I can, I just don't know where he is." Roach replied as they both looked around.

Agony and Roach stood still, the silence was heavy, broken a few times by Oryx's laugh. Oryx charged into the circle, sword in hand, slamming it down between Roach and Agony, the shock-wave sending both of them flying. Oryx raised his sword and began to swing it down on Roach when he pulled out his golden gun. Three quick shots to the head, Agony helping him out with her rocket launcher. The fog cleared and Oryx fell to the floor, pushing himself up off the floor with his hands. 

Oryx began to laugh as he held his hand out to his sword, a white energy flowing from it forming an orb in his hand. Oryx laughed as he raised the orb and shoved it into his chest, he began to float as he became taken and disappeared. Agony and Roach stood in shock, they thought they had won. They were close, and now they felt further from victory than ever before.
