Removing a loose strand of hair from her face and placing it delicately behind her ear, Severus kissed the corner of her lips, his heart-shattering at the sign of the woman he grew fond of breaking in his arms.
"I went too far in class," he admitted, his forehead now resting on hers - forgetting the presence of his student kneeling beside them -, "my Slytherin student know me too well Hermione, they would have noticed my change in character if I let you go easily without a few harsh words."
Lowering her head in shame, remembering both their argument in the abandoned classroom and in front of a few students, Hermione couldn't believe she had lost her witts so easily. "Everything I said to you or about you Sev, it didn't mean any of it."
Smiling sheepishly, the wizard brought his index finger under her chin, beckoning her to meet his gaze while his other hand grabbed a hand full of her hair - tugging on it lightly. "I'm not going to say I wasn't pained Hermione because I was. When I left you alone in the corridors after our first fight I felt terrible, but I had no other choice. Our love isn't going to be easy love, the Dark Lord is still alive and I'm still his faithful servant up to date, and with everything going on with you, I need you to get a grip on yourself."
Harry watched the exchange between the two completely dumbfounded. He had been bewildered by his professor's attitude in the restricted section when he found Hermione's unconscious body. Their talk had been fruitful, making him see past his brooding attitude and snarky comments. Aghape, his mouth wide open as he notices the twinkle in both his best friend's eyes and his professor's, the love and passion that bore their orbs as they gazed at each other lovingly. All he could do was smile and wonder if his parents look at one another the same way. He remembered Sirius' words about the overwhelming love he had witnessed between Lily and James, the way they could communicate through their gaze or the intoxicating aura that radiated from their bodies whenever they were together. True love had been Harry Potter's reason to live, the power and tender affection for her son stronger than any dark curse on the earth, saving him from death's radar. Yet, as he watched Hermione and Snape's interaction, the way he tenderly touched her, or the way he was kneeling before her as if she was her world, made Harry realise that Snape might not be verbal, but his body language to everything he had done for Hermione proved his undying love for the witch.
Hermione's eyes glimmer as she looked at her lover, the fire flickering behind his a sign of love and resilience. Leaning against his touch, she bellowed, "I knew you were playing pretences, but for some reason, something in my head convinced me otherwise. Forgive me."
Both Severus and Harry frowned at her comment, perplex.
"I told you messing with Dark magic isn't -"
"- Dark magic?" Interrupted the chosen one wide-eyed, "Hermione Jane Granger what on Godric's grave did you do?"
Severus snorted, unexpectedly glad that a Potter was siding with him, "taking the words out of my thoughts junior Potter."
Rolling his eyes, Harry was seething. Not only did he have to worry about the Dark Lord, Dumbledore, Horcruxes and finding a way to be on Slughorn's good side, but now his best friend was playing with fire.
"Are you familiar with the Devil's testament?" Asked Snape as he stood up and lifted Hermione with him, holding onto her with a firm hand around her waist, "Potter, I'm talking to you!" He scowled as he noticed the young boy's mind drifting somewhere else.
"'The real question professor is if you're familiar with the belief of an angel and demon owning one of our shoulders?" Responded the wizard, trying his hardest to contain the fright that shivered its way down his spine, "I don't remember much of that evening in the restricted section, yet enough to know that wherever we went, it was hell."
Taken aback by Harry's comment, Severus' hold on Hermione weakened, luckily she had regained her composure. "Potter remember our private lessons on occlumency?"
Nodding back at his professor, knowing where he was heading, Harry Potter knew that he was now more than ever he had become a key element in finding what was menacing Hermione's life, and potentially Severus' too.
