"What is the mighty Severus Snape afraid off? I know you've been hiding something from me, please," Hermione cried, kissing her lover's knuckles, "have faith in me, in our love."

"Hermione" he sighed, pulling himself away from her, "our love has nothing to do with this. I have told you countless times that I made an oath. And even if I haven't, I couldn't risk losing you to a decision I made in my younger years."

It didn't take long for the young Gryffindor to realised that Severus' involvement in the war was far more important than anything the golden trio could expect. Hearing daily insults and hate-oriented comments towards her lover were growing hard on her. No one knew of their romance, it was - as Severus said - 'too dangerous', his place as a teacher and her title as a renown-academic scholar was at risk. Yet, as their relationship grew, so did her anxiety. The war was after all growing closer by the minute.

"Severus" she begged, beckoning him with her eyes to get back in his sit, "I need to know what's eating you alive for so many months! I can see it through your eyes, you're in constant pain. I thought my love would grow on you, but Merlin, I was so wrong."

She tried to be the true Gryffindor that she was, 'courageous', face the tall man in front of her, without a single tear threatening to leave her worried peepers. Yet sometimes, having humanity is far more valuable than being brave. "You're the love of my life Severus" she cried, her lower lip shuddering, her sobs soon invading his chambers, "I have known it from the moment you kissed me so fervently in the corridors. Let me be by your side, don't push me away."

"What is love, Hermione?" Challenged Severus, his orbs closed in a thin line, shrugging off his emotions - letting the Slytherin snake hiss back at the woman in tears. "Apart from being a chemical reaction between two brains, it has no value. Do you realise what you're telling me? You're still a student at Hogwarts - even though you are of age - and I'm still your professor. How can you be so reckless and tell your professor that he's the love of your life when you haven't even started to live!"

"Have you?" She yelled, standing up, snapping her fist on the table - rage boiling in her blood, "you've spent years in love with a woman who turned her back on your sorry ass the moment you were far too immature to acknowledge that you were bloody frightened!"

Severus snapped his head towards the infuriated woman, confounded by the sudden change of character. Hermione had always been the sweet, caring woman he's learned to adore. Yet, as he searched within her eyes for signs of remorse, all he found was disgust, pain, anger. "How dare you!" Was all he seethed back at her, his chest buffing as he inhaled a large amount of air, trying his hardest to control his sentiments. "You know nothing Granger so shut that filthy mouth of yours!"

"I may know nothing, but who's fault is that? I've tried countless times yet all you've done is shield your mind from me! Was it all a game for you Snape? Did you fancy using one of your most hatred student as a bloody lavatory - you sexually frustrated scoundrel!" The longer she spoke, the less rational she was becoming. She knew her words would be far more destructive than she indented them to be, but the pain in her chest - that had grown through months - was now unbearable.

It had become a constant torment for the young witch - believing that she was having a nervous breakdown - yet the longer she monitored and investigated the man she thought she knew so well, Hermione realised that he had become a stranger. "Lily Potter, the girl who lived long enough to turn you into an insensible bastard - how ironic isn't it? All your life you've loved a woman who despised you for a rash mistake - in the heat of the moment - yet here I stand, a woman who is ready to give up everything she owns for your happiness, but all you do is push me away! I should have known that my love wouldn't be enough for you. Should I ask for Ginny's hair tint? Maybe you'll fuck me better if I were a redhead!"

"Shut up!" Severus finally spoke, his yells causing her to quiver by the intensity of his fury. Veins were protruding from his forehead and neck, his knuckles now harboured an extremely pale flesh - the blood no longer circulating through his hand.

He had listened to her speech, each word worse than a Cruciatus piercing through his skin, grazing him in the most sadistic way - his damaged heart hurting in an unfamiliar way. After years of being a spy, and being tortured under the wand of the Dark Lord, Severus thought he could handle a witch, yet Hermione was different. She was the one in control. He had been seemingly petrified as she snapped her venom to him, unable to speak. He prayed every second that was his hearing would go numb, her words like an unextinguished fire, burning everything along the way.

His breathing became jerked, his head throbbing while his whole body ached. "How can you say such careless words! A lavatory you said? Are you mad? I've never once used you for such foul actions, everything, every touch, every kiss, every thrust, was all because I care about you!"

"That's the problem, Severus!" She bellowed, strolling towards him, "you only 'care' about me!" Hermione rose her fist, hitting his chest at each word that followed, "you don't love me!"

His eyes bore the most painful of expressions, his big hands taking hold of his lover's, trying his best to calm her down, "Merlin, all I've been doing is trying to protect you Hermione, you have no idea who I am, what I've done, what I've been asked to do! I love you so much that I would rather lose you and know you are well and alive, than have you by my side and have you die in my arms!"

"I'm a big girl Severus, I can choose for myself" she sighted, meeting his pleading gaze, "but tell me for the love of your Salazar, what are you hiding from me!"

"I'm a death eater Hermione!"

"I'm serious, this is the first time I've..."

"Am I so insignificant to you Severus that you forget about our conversation?" She seethed, standing up, interrupting him. "I bloody told you how worried I was that someone was messing with my mind, my memories, but you forget it all!" Her fist met with a loud thud the headmaster's desk, causing some of the portraits to speak in protest. She gave them her darkest look before shifting her gaze to her potion professor "Let me guess, did Ravenbitch fuck your brains out?"
