"Aya?" Naomi whispered, still gripping the wheel slightly with anxiety. They passed buildings as they drove under a blue-ish gray sky. Ayaka's head whipped up and she cocked her head to one side, having almost dozing off. However the upcoming topic of the boys kept her up.
"What're we gonna do with these boys? Aki and Kenji? I mean, I just kidnapped them - in front of their parents!" Naomi continued to rant about her wrong doing. Obviously she was too much of a goody goody two shoes to forget about it.
Ayaka sighed, her gaze directed at the two, sleeping boys. She smiled at them, taking in their appearance. They both had the same, deep brown eyes, ruffled black hair and muddy clothes. Something about them made Ayaka warm to them, and suddenly she felt the urge to pick them up into a big, bear hug.
"Are we... You know..." Naomi trailed off, fixing her eyes on the road ahead. The streets were bustling with residents and tourists. But she couldn't take in the beauty, let alone drive more stable, with worrying so much.
"Well, it's complicated. It's dangerous out there, and then there's-" Ayaka gulped, wiping the sweat from her gleaming brow. She didn't want to say it, nor did she want to think about it.
"Tek Tek." She whispered the words so gently, that it was barely audible, but Naomi heard, and she instantly knew who she was referring to. The name was understandable, since they always knew what was coming after them when they heard that particular sound. She grimaced, remembering the traumatic events that'd happened in the past. Looking back, it didn't seem real. Almost like a terrible nightmare plaguing reality. But it was, and she better believe it!
"Their parents will call the police, and see what happened last time when we were running from both them and Tek Tek - we could've been killed! I think we should drop them off by their parents, but keep the car-"
"NO!" Nana yelled suddenly, startling the two girls who were deep in conversation. Naomi stole her a confused glance at the girl, but soon returned her stare to the road. Ayaka twisted around in her seat and looked back at Nana.
"They're my friends. I've never had friends before! Please let them stay, pleasey pleasey weasy?" Nana pleaded, clasping her hands together with a hopeful look on her face.
The girls sighed in exasperation, shifting uncomfortably in their seats. Nana always had beg about everything. From popsicles to jumping into large water fountains for coins. Don't ask...
"Now listen Nana-Chan, you know it's best if they go back to their parents!" Ayaka replied sternly. Nana looked crestfallen. "Do you want to get chased by the police again?" She added.
"BUT THEY'RE MY FRIENDS!" Nana stomped her foot emphatically, her eyes welling up with tears. Her face tinted red with anger. Ayaka pulled her into a hug, hoping that would cheer her up, but she didn't respond, pouting at them.
"It's for the best, Nana-Chan! Now you stop misbehaving or else!" Ayaka snapped, growing annoyed at her sister's stubborn act.
Aki woke up abruptly, his eyes fluttered open and he rubbed them, yawning. He noticed Kenji had his head resting against his small shoulder. He began nudging Kenji to wake, too, slightly annoyed by the extra weight forced upon him. Nana smiled at her friends, forgetting the conversation from which she'd just had as she watched them rub the sleep from their eyes and yawn.
"Listen, boys," Naomi began bravely, keeping her eyes on the road. "We're going to send you back to your mummy, ok?" She flashed them a small smile, as if that would be good news to them.
The boys turned solemn, screwing up their faces into a frown. A single, salty tear dripped from Aki's eye as he came into realization as to what she'd meant. Go home? But he wanted to stay!
