Naomi revved up the car and stepped down on the acceleration. The gleaming red Jeep jolted into motion and they began speeding down the moonlit roads, along the houses for rent. Aki was holding onto Kenji, desperate not to let go with fear of losing him.
Kenji gazed out the window at the world that passed them, muttering under his breath, "none of this is real." Nana listened intently, trying to believe it herself - but she couldn't convince herself, she knew that Tek Tek wasn't leaving them yet. She clung onto that small string of hope, blazing in her heart. Tek Tek wasn't leaving them yet.
"Music?" Naomi asked. Ayaka shook her head vigorously. She knew they needed to listen closely for any curious noises.
The car sped on, swerving round corners and dodging lamp posts. Silver streaks from the moon lit up their way as the preteen sped up her sloppy and maniacal driving.
"So, what now?" Ayaka asked tiredly, yawning in the process. She was exhausted.
"I... I don't know." Naomi answered honestly, feeling lost.
"Keep driving?" Ayaka suggested with a slight shrug.
"Maybe."
"Do you think Tek Tek is after us?"
Naomi hesitated uncertaintly, a look of confusion plastered on her face. She sighed lightly and glanced at Ayaka, whose eyes were fixed out the window. A car veered around them, blowing the horn shrilly. Naomi yelped and paid attention to the road again, continuing her sloppy driving.
"I think so... But she's injured, right? We have an advantage I guess..."
"What was that?"
A sudden bang echoed throughout the car and awoke the sleeping children. They rubbed their eyes and yawned. Nana's eyes fluttered as she softly asked, "What was that?" Ayaka blinked twice, not quite knowing herself. She stole a glance at Naomi, who was as just as confused and slightly alarmed as well.
"I'm pretty sure it came from the back of the car," Naomi replied, looking in the rearview mirror. A car sped past them, an angry driver shouting curse words at them as they drove by. Naomi simply ignored them.
"You mean like the trunk?" Ayaka asked, her upper torso now out the window as she peeked over the side of the car. "It looks okay, though..."
"What's going on?" Aki asked warily. The two up front ignored him. Him and Nana exchanged confused and worried glances. While Kenji was slowly slipping into a deep slumber, toning out all their voices, their was a strange noise coming from the roof of the car. It was as if someone was walking, or crawling, on it until they got to the top and stopped. The noise didn't disrupt Kenji, he barely heard it, but everyone else had a sick feeling. They all exchanged alarmed glances.
"WATCH OUT WILL YA?!" A man yelled furiously at them, getting their attention. He squinted his eyes when he noticed they were kids, then looked up on the roof, and his face turned pale. He started sweating and he sped off ahead of them.
Naomi and Ayaka gulped, their eyes as wide as saucers and their bodies stiff. "Close your windows." Ayaka whispered after swallowing the lump in her throat. Nana immediately closed her window, lip trembling. She looked over to Kenji, realizing he was asleep. She didn't want to reach over their and close the window, for fear the thing on the roof would surely grab her. Aki definitely didn't want to either, and they both looked at one another.
Naomi and Ayaka quickly closed their windows, beads of sweat trickling down their forehead. Aki lightly tapped Kenji on the shoulder, too afraid to say anything, while Nana watched. Kenji grumbled and groggily shrugged him off his shoulder, just when a light tap came from on the roof. Naomi was constantly swerving and dodging lampposts, her anxiety getting the best of her. Ayaka's breath hitched and she fearfully shrunk back into her seat.
Just then, Aki saw a few strands of black hair drop and hang in front of the window. "K-Kenji wake up!" He cried, shrinking back from that side of the car. Kenji's eyes fluttered open to see a tangles of black hair dangling in his face, he blinked his eyes, confused, before suddenly being yanked by his collar halfway out the window. He screamed as a pale hand intertwined its fingers around his black locks.
"KENJI!" Everyone yelled in horror.
