Naomi's POV

"Stupid child, silly girl! You should've never been born!" My mother shrieked in my ear heartlessly, making them ring. I don't believe this! I'd only taken a sweet from the sweet jar without asking, what a big mistake I'd made. But she's a lot stricter than other parents in Japan nonetheless. A lot stricter. As you can tell from the bruises dotting my skin. I'd better believe it.....

I smirked accidentally, trying to hide it by looking down at my feet. But she saw it, and growled in frustration and humiliation, her face bore a dark and threatening expression, sending chills down my spine and leaving dread to coil in the pit of my stomach. Suddenly, she yanked my arm upwards, so that I was standing on my tippy toes. She raised a hand and started hitting it, hard. It stung more than anything, causing tears to spring from my eyes. Uh oh... She hates crying, that's why I usually try not to let the water-works run.

Shouting at me with her loud voice, she smacked my cheek. I gently touched the spot where she hit me, feeling a warm sensation coming over my fingertips. No doubt she left a red mark when she did. She then pushed me and I fell onto the cold, tiled kitchen floor with a thud. My mother smirked evilly and spat on me, coating my eyelid with saliva. I screamed as she began to close in on me, and begged my father to help. But, he simply watched, laughing at the agony I was in. Well, what did I expect him to do, give me a lollipop and kiss my boo boos?

What kind of parents would do this to their own daughter? My parents, that's who.

This was my life, abused physically by my cold-hearted parents over the smallest things. I can't stand them, laughing at me when I flinch and saying I'm worthless. On the outside they may look like loving, caring parents, but behind closed doors they're monsters. I'd give anything for a better family, a better life. I know one day I'll have to do something. Anything. Just to escape this awful place I have to call my home. If anything it's hell.

Little did I know, I was as safe as could be in my parents' house. Not entirely safe, but in less danger. Away from the horrors outside, where men stand in darkened corners of the streets. Where someone, or something, may be hiding in the shadows, waiting for you to cross their path...
