Where There is Sorrow

I stretch and rub my eyes before looking around. I realise I'm still on the couch and see that down is just approaching causing me to give a soft sigh. I stretch as I give a soft yawn and hear a pair of soft footsteps at the end of the staircase. I turn around with a soft smile to see Raph standing there watching me. I move up to where he is knowing that without the curtains drawn he can't come down.

"You have to go get the Coven, don't you?"

"I'm going to bring them in case the Clave changes its mind. I was hoping you would wake up before I had to leave."

"Why didn't you wake me when you got up? You don't normally leave me to sleep by myself."

"You were peaceful for the first time in a long time. I thought if I woke you that when you went back to sleep you might have another nightmare or vision."

"Thank you for that Raph because I'm going to need it for the next few days. I'll see you soon enough."

I kiss him goodbye knowing if the Clave does not agree then he won't be fighting. I'll have to go to war against my father without seeing him again. It terrifies me that this may be the last time I see him before a war begins. He pulls away to let me breathe with a shocked look on his face.

"Stay safe for me?"

"I'll try my love, but war is a fickle creature. You stay safe as well so I can come home to you."

"I like the sound of that." He says before giving me a final kiss and going to his study.

I take a deep breath before grabbing my dress from downstairs and going to the bathroom for a shower. After my shower I brush my hair out before letting it rest at my waist exactly how Max loved to see it. Anytime he was around I had my hair down he would play with the strands amazed at the colour. I pull on my dress with shaking hands before grabbing the heels I am pairing with the dress. I go downstairs before opening the door to see Alec waiting and ready to go.

"Izzy won't be coming, will she?"

"We couldn't get her to come out of her room."

"Let us head off then." I say feeling a tightness in my chest.

After a second, we begin walking and though it is early there are people out. I can feel their stares boring into me and my shoulders tighten under their stares. After a second Alec shifts closer to me and puts his arm around my shoulders. I look up to him and give a weak smile when out eyes meet, but I know he sees what I want to tell him. He gives a small smile before we finally make it to our destination. Alec keeps me pulled into his side the whole time and I wrap my arms around his waist in a way to comfort him as well. Just before they place the fire to his pyre I speak softly.

"Maryse would you mind if I sing a song? It's be like I was singing him to sleep like I used to."

"Of course, Jade."

I take a deep breath before pulling away from Alec to stand by myself. I close my eyes and when they light the pyre I begin singing.
