I open my eyes and blink rapidly hearing footsteps near where I am lying on the steps. My eyes land on a familiar figure causing me to sigh as I push myself into a sitting position. Her attention swings my way when I sit up and displeasure shines in her eyes. I roll my eyes as I press a hand to my head to stop the pounding from within.

"Of course, you'd just sleep on the steps of the Accords Hall and at a time like this."

"News flash Jocelyn people do get sick. Leave me alone to suffer in peace, will you?"

"Suffer? What could you possibly know about suffering?"

Before I can retort a pain lances through my head causing me to clench my jaw. She is obviously waiting for an answer which pisses me off because of whatever this pain is and she's ignoring the fact that her child is in pain. I hear quick light footsteps coming my way and see Izzy and Magnus coming from the hall. Izzy drops to her knees next to me and puts a hand to my head before retracting it with a horrified look. Magnus sees the look before lightly pressing a hand to my forehead and his brows furrow in confusion before a knowing look passes across his features. I wince as the pain keeps increasing and see Izzy do the same thing. I give her an apologetic look, but she waves it off with a smile that makes me give a small one in return.

"I forgot you could feel my pain, but do you have the fever?"

"No, but the pain steadily increased and I grew worried. I wanted to check on you because you left looking sick and you were now in pain."

"Mags you looked like you know what's going on. What's happening?"

"Given past happenings I think you're accessing a new power and the pain is because your body is trying to acclimate to it."

"Well damn. And here we thought I was done getting powers. How come I never showed any powers before this point?"

"You repressed yourself and somehow it repressed what powers you have. You almost seem more like a warlock at this point J. Yet you still hold yourself as a Shadowhunter."

"Can you tell what the power is going to be?" I ask curiously.

"Since the pain is in your head it's something to do with the mind. I hate to say this, but you need to lie back and let go so the power can surface."

With a shaky breath I lay back on the steps and close my eyes before letting the barrier in my mind down. Instant pain goes through my mind and I want to pull the barrier up, but I keep it down. I can hear Izzy gritting her teeth to keep from crying out and can only hope this won't last long for her sake. Not long after that thought runs through my mind the pain begins fading away allowing the two of us to relax. Eventually, I flutter my eyes open and sit up without any problems causing me to let out a breath of relief. I roll my neck to pop it when I get a shock.

It looks as if everything went well, but what could her powers be?

Finally, the pain is gone which is good for the both of us. She looks better now and not so sickly like she did earlier.

Powers? This is just further proof she is tainted by what her father has done. He has turned her into a monster just like he is.

I flinch at that unconsciously and Izzy puts her hand on my shoulder as I hear her worry for me. Only the three of them are not speaking they are completely silent watching. My eyes widen in realisation of what my power must be and Izzy squeezes my shoulder to ground me.

"Mags I think I know what my power is."

"Brilliant J. What's your newfound power?"

"I'm telepathic and it seems to have a distance barrier because I can only hear the three of your thoughts. I can't hear anyone in the Council meeting."

Izzy's eyes sparkle in wonder and amazement causing me to give a soft laugh. My mother scoffs before walking into the hall leaving us outside. Magnus looks vaguely troubled, but also as if he is not surprised by her reaction. It stings that she seems to not care about me and I harden myself against her. I have softened myself to certain people while others I have hardened myself against them to protect myself. I don't want anyone to play me like I have been by my brother and father because is hurts far too much.

"J, do you want to test the power? You could go into the Council meeting and see if you can hear their thoughts."

"If the voices get too loud we can always leave too Jay."

"Alright let us run this trial because I need to test the distance. When the battle begins it could be a greater help during the battle. Let me take a second to prepare myself before we enter.'

They both nod and I close my eyes taking a deep breath to center myself. I open my eye and with a nod the three of us enter the hall. Once I do it's a cacophony of voices causing me to stop in shock. I eventually try to see if I can focus on only one person's thoughts. I smile triumphantly when I manage to do this before listening to what everyone's thinking.

A rune that will allow a Downworlder and a Shadowhunter to use each other's powers? Created by a daughter of Valentine which begs the question, do we trust her?

Please let them allow me to rune them because we will lose against him if we don't.

"Izzy why don't you check on your family? Magnus and I are going to the dais."

"Alright. Don't sneak off to the battle without me knowing."

"I promise I'll let you know if I decide to go to the battle."

She nods satisfied while Magnus raises an eyebrow causing me to give a mischievous smirk. He softly rolls his eyes before I grab his wrist startling him. I nod to the dais causing him to look at me in question.

"Clary's going to make a rune and you'll need to see it."
