Artemis-Tonya Vasylchenko

I watched as the beautiful Artemis aimed for me and even though she was about to kill me, I had to admire her.

Everything about her image looked to be connected to the moon. Her black hair, pale skin, full red lips and greyish eyes. She looked graceful and kind, almost vulnerable but I knew that wasn't true. She was a hunter and above all, a leader to her hunters.

Yes, I know that I'm new to the gods business, but everyone that's anyone at least knows about Artemis and her brother, Apollo. I'm sure you even knew about her before this book.

"Zoe Nyx," she said in a voice of discomfort. ", though it is not what I do with my time, I've been put in charge to bring you in."

"In where?" Psyche shouted. I turned to see that she had notched an arrow and was aiming it at the goddess.

"My father has ordered your arrest. A predictable move but an effective one, nonetheless." She informed me. While she spoke, the other female hunters had made a circle, trapping us.

They want to use me as bait, as predicted.

The leader of the Lyons was right, we were foolish to leave Headquarters. We put the person they want the most in the open and basically sat back and waited for them to attack. And attack they did. Now I was facing a goddess and didn't have a chance at all.

"I'm afraid we're not letting you take her without a fight." Toni informed her and brought her knife up. Daniel and Luke looked around realizing that they would be the first to die.

"Stand down, girls. My job is to secure Zoe, I will not hurt any females. Males on the other hand..." She let the drawstring go, and an arrow flew too fast for my eyes to register.

It flew straight into Luke, and he flew back at least 10 meters. Psyche let go of her arrow and it flew right towards Artemis. Being an archer for millennia must've improved her skill because she dodged it with unnatural speed. And then the chaos started.

The hunters moved in and we moved to intercept. Toni right behind me, I charged at Artemis. Daniel, somehow, had gotten a bow and arrow and was firing at the hunters. Luke was still unmoving.

Arrows flew by me and disappeared. I didn't realize it but those arrows were meant for me. Artemis got in close and pushed me back but I was up and jabbing, looking for an opening. Toni was against my back, paring away a hunter. I wasn't going to last long against a goddess without a weapon. I was surprise I was still standing actually.

"You have a warrior spirit and the flames of Nyx protecting you. A shame you still believe in love." She hit my leg making it buckle. I immediately got up and kept fighting.

But we were losing which I knew was imminent. Daniel and Psyche were already running out of arrows and were now alongside Toni. And with a hit with Artemis bow I joined the group. We were surrounded and tired. Later on Toni would tell me that purple flames were licking my body but it seemed pointless as I didn't know what else to do.

"How could you do this?" I found myself asking Artemis. She sighed.

"Though I am a strong independent woman, I must carry out my father's orders and he has assured me that you won't get hurt. He just wants Hades." She stepped forward and drew a vial out of her canvas.

This was it. The end. She would inject something into me that would probably knock me unconscious and when I wake up, Jake would be in the hands of the gods.

But I was wrong. As soon as Artemis stepped forward, a circle of transparent purple fire erupted around us. I thought it was the Nyx ultimate defense but it wasn't because soon the flames took shape of a three headed hellhound that was nine feet tall.

"Cerberus." I whispered. I couldn't see the heads and all I could see was the underside of the hellhound.

The three heads howled and all the hunters retreated. All but Artemis who stared at Cerberus.

"Now how did you get here, beast?" She calmly asked while drawing an arrow before letting it sail.

I braced myself for a howl, but it never came as the arrow sailed through Cerberus' faded form. As the arrow sailed out of his faded form, he turned solid once more.

He lunged at Artemis who rolled away and went on the defense. The hunters joined her but it was useless. The arrows just got stuck in his form, but it didn't seem to affect him as he went at the hunters, snapping them up and flinging them skyward. Artemis yelled, telling them to retreat and those who were still touching the ground wisely listened and followed their master. Cerberus threw out an earth shaking roar their way and for the first time I was glad for our three headed guard dog. Naturally, this is when everything went wrong.

We all stood up from behind the now destroyed Remnant vehicle when suddenly it wasn't there anymore. It had been flung into the air. I stared as I traced the origin of its suddenly flight before complaining.

"Oh, come on!" I yelled as the car crashed down into the street. "You telling me that Cerberus has a snake for a tail?!"

Indeed, he did as he whirled around, three heads looking at me and then a fourth diamond shape snake head appeared to hover over the other three. Cerberus growled and licked it's many lips and stalked us.

"And I hate to say it," Toni said. ", but it looks like he was saving us for himself."

Well I'll be damned.
