I ran at a full gallop, trying to put myself ahead of an impossible task. That's what it felt like running from the wave. The wave wasn't as big as the surrounding buildings (not by far) but still. It was coming at a pace that we could still run ahead of it but couldn't dodge it.
Jake was no help. He didn't recognize us at all, and he didn't pretend to know us which was kind of good. The off thing about him was soon clear: he was evil. He kept running at a slow pace, laughing at the danger and making weird remarks. He didn't seem particularly worried about the wave.
"Whoa there!" he suddenly pulled me behind a building while the wave rushed past. I didn't see the others but my attention wasn't focused on them at the moment.
I was so close.
The wave collapsed on itself and turned our way. We started running again. Jake looked amused by the wave and looked at me. I shrugged as best as I could while running. Of course, Jake took this moment to do something useful which he could have done earlier.
He ran ahead of me, turned(skidded) 180°, folded his arms and then shoved them to the wave as if he was showing a refrigerator back into place. My Nyx eyes showed me that there was a massive amount of godly energy that released from his hands and the next thing, I felt a gush of frozen shards and cold wind. I stopped running to look back to see ice all over the street.
Jake had frozen the wave and blown it up!
That shouldn't have been possibly since Hades had no control over water but apparently it was. Suddenly the sky lit up, darkened and then lit up again. The top of a skyscraper erupted into rubble, falling over the street.
Back track: Zeus threw a lightning bolt from the top of the skyscraper; Jake caught it and somehow redirected it back, decapitating a building.
I stared at Jake as he looked smugly at the two brothers who weren't expecting the lord of the underworld to throw back their elements.
"Oh, did you forget brothers?" His voice carried over the silent city that even the storm quiet down. "I am the god of the underworld, and death resides under me. Meaning every time, you Olympians killed someone is another thing under my domain."
I stared in horror at Jake. He lifted his hands and made grabbing motions at the two buildings like yanking them together. They immediately broke off their foundation and flew into each other, squashing the two gods.
He turned and smiled at me. His eyes blazed. He turned and saw an arrow coming at his face. With godly fast reflexes, he snatched it out of the air.
"An arrow?" he asked out loud. "Well it must be late then, Artemis."
Down the road, Artemis stood, her bow raised at Jake but she hesitated. She was wondering if she could take Jake by herself. She thought against it and disappeared.
Two Remnant vehicles pulled around the corner. I looked at Jake before looking at one of the cars. Psyche was waving at me to get in, her eyes wary of Jake.
I jogged towards the car and got into the back. I didn't want to spend another moment standing next to him. A him that didn't remember me. The storm had softened to a degree. The rain still poured and the wind still blew but the sky was now a bit lighter. No doubt when the lightni- the sky lit up as I thought of it. Zeus was awake under all that rubble.
The car wasn't moving. I was going to say something when I saw Jake walking past the two cars. He turned and looked at the rubble and laughed.
He stomped his foot and in the next moment, a car on fire was in the road.
It looked futuristic in the rubble. Also that the wheels had orange flames all around them. He got in and took off.
We took off behind him.
"I can't believe it." I mumbled out for the first time. "He's so much worse now."
A mumble of agreement came from all around the car.
"Did you hear what he said?" Psyche disrupted the silence. "He said that all of death resided under him."
"Yeah I was there." I commented but that's not what Psyche meant.
"You don't understand. If all death resides under him and he can control it then?" She made me wait to get the answer, but I just shrugged.
"It means all the billions of people that died in the past. That's hydrogen bombs, earthquakes, tornadoes not to mention all the times that the gods killed people. With that much power he might as well be the god of everything. You saw what he did out there? He took Zeus lightning bolt and Poseidon wave and turned it against them. "
Damn, that was a lot of power. To think, how many people have died to this day? How many people have died today? And right now, there was a boy who could control all of that. He could walk into a shopping mall and replicate a suicide bombing. He could do so much damage with that much power.
"How come he be so powerful now?" I asked out loud. No one could answer.
No one could guess the reasons for the new Thales.
