She didn't just dislike her parents, she hated them. Her parents didn't just dislike her, they hated her.
She was close to her brother though, they were always together as children. She always looked after him when their parents would go out drinking or when they would do drugs. She was always there. But when she was old enough she got a few jobs and got herself and brother an apartment. When she was old enough she got a proper job and even though she would never be there, she bought it so her brother wouldn't have to live the same childhood she did.
When Prudence's mum, Janet was called from the hospital saying her daughter was involved in an accident and was now in a coma, she never rushed down to see if she was okay. She finished her shift and then called her husband John and son Leonard to tell them what happened.
Leo had always been close with Pru and once he heard the news rushed to the hospital, at the same time yelling at his mother for not telling him sooner and going to see if she was okay.
This was the first time Pru's parents would see her in over 5 months and she would be unconscious in a coma, the thought made Leo hate his parents even more for not spending time with her and being the crappy parents they were.
Leo regretted not saying goodbye to her before she left for work that morning, for all he knew she could die soon and he wouldn't have said goodbye.
Leo was the first to arrive at the hospital and once there he ran down to her room to check on her. There she was all bandaged up, her lightly freckled cheeks swollen and her prominent green eyes now shut. Despite all this, he could still tell it was her.
Her parents finally made their way to the hospital 30minuets after the phone call with their son. When they arrived they had gone to her room and just sat there. They were all sat. But the only difference being, Leo was sat, holding her hand.
That was the difference between Leo and his parents, he liked his sister, he still cared, she was always there for him so he would be there for her.
His parents never cared, they had never liked either of them and Prudence, being 11 years older, had suffered longer than he had. She was the only one who knew what he had suffered.
Their parents had always mistreated them but Prudence would always make sure her brother was never severely hurt or scarred.
Example: One time Leo and Pru's parents had come home from the pub drunk and probably on drugs, at the time Leonard was 4 which meant Pru was 15. Their dad had come into the living room where the two siblings were sat and started shouting because they weren't in bed even though it was only 6:00PM and they still hadn't eaten due to there being no food in the cupboards. Leo had started crying because he didn't like the shouting but his mother started to shout at him for crying. Leo didn't stop crying, he couldn't, his dad didn't like this and tried to hit him. Prudence however had stepped in the way before her brother could have been hit and took the hit herself. She had told her brother to go upstairs and go to her room and that she would do the same. So they both ran up up the stairs and retreated to the safety of her room, making sure to lock the door. Pru and Leo had their parents trying to kick the door down for what seemed like hours and then the parents finally gave up and went to bed. The two siblings had then drifted to sleep.
