LeonardBy the time Prudence and I had finished at our place the sun was setting and it was time to head out. Prudence had said she wanted to take us to town to go shopping before we headed home so we decided we would get the bus into town.
The bus journey wasn't too long, neither was it short it was a 20-minute drive. But as we sat on the bus I realised we were taking longer than usual and that we were taking the wrong route for town. Maybe this was her amnesia, she may have forgotten which bus we needed to take.
"Hey, Pru?"
"Yeah" she smiled.
"Did we get the wrong bus or something?" I quirked.
She paused, thought and then answered smugly, "Don't worry about it. I know where we are." This 'smugness' didn't sit well with me, since when is my sister 'smug', I chuckled at the thought.
"What," she asked.
"Nothing," I said shrugging it off.
"Okayyyy" she drawled out.
The route the bus was taking was looking more and more unfamiliar as the minutes passed by and I started to believe we weren't actually going to town. We had now been on the bus for at least 30 minutes when Pru had pressed the stop button, at the next stop we made our way off of the bus and onto the pavement.
"Where are we going?" I asked her.
"Just that building there," she said whilst pointing across the road to a building with a massive sign reading 'Adoption' above the door. As soon as I saw the sign I started to register what was happening and a massive smile was plastered on my face.
"Come on it's getting late," Pru said.
I turned, nodded and then followed my sister toward the building. Once we reached the building Pru opened the door and walked straight toward the register.
"Hey, I signed in to look at adopting a dog," Pru told the woman sat at the desk.
"Hi, can I please have your name?"
"Yes it's Prudence Starka" she replied.
"Yes you're booked," she typed something into her keyboard and then continued "if you wouldn't mind waiting for a colleague to come and assist you, you can sit over there if you want to" she finished.
A minute or two later another worker walked in and called Prudence's name so the two of us made our way towards the door he was stood.
"Hi I'm Jon and I'm here to assist you today with choosing a dog, is there any particular breed, type or size of dog you're looking for?" he asked.
Prudence looked at me as if asking me to answer so I told him, "yeah we're looking for a small dog, possibly a puppy?"
Jon told us to follow him and then took us to a door which above read puppies, we all walked in and I immediately spotted the puppy I wanted. I walked toward the dog's cage and asked Jon about this puppy. Jon told me the puppy was 4months old, was a Miniature Jack Russel Terrier and that he was a he and his name — which I could change — was Lucky. The name seemed fitting as I was lucky, lucky to have my sister back and lucky to have the dog I've always wanted.
After a couple of minutes of playing with the pup and getting some more information on what type of dog he was and his requirements, we walked into the shop area where we bought things such as food, blankets, toys, bed etc, etc.
Once we had adopted the dog we hauled a taxi grabbed the bags full of our purchases and had the dog carrier with Lucky inside and headed back to the apartment.
