Today was 10 months, 28 days Pru had been in a coma.It was also Leonard's birthday.
During school, Leo received a present from his best and only friend Zachary Davis. Zac had gifted him a series of limited edition comic books. Leo felt happy for the first time since his sister was hospitalised. Deciding it would be nice if Zac came with him to visit his sister and witness him blow out his candle, he invited him along. Zac agreed and the two boys made their way to the local bakery to purchase a cupcake and candle, they also bought Zac a cupcake because he said he would get hungry.
At the hospital, the boys sat down on the chairs located next to the bed, added the candle to Leo's cupcake and lit it. Zac started to sing happy birthday and Leo stood up holding the cupcake in one hand and his sisters hand in the other.
"Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear Leonard,
Happy birthday to you."Leo blew out his candle and then felt something squeeze his hand. He realised she had. She had squeezed his hand.
"Hip-hip-hooray, hip-hip-hooray" Zac finished, then noticed his best friend looking at his and his sisters hand vigilantly and spoke, "You okay?"
Leo was too shocked to comprehend what his friend was asking him and just kept staring at his hand then at Prudence's face to see if anything had changed. Nothing.
"Leeeooo, dude, what's up" Zac once again asked wafting a hand front of Leonard's face.
"Huh, what?" He turned to his friend.
"What's up" Zac repeated for the third time.
"I think my sister just squeezed my hand," he said still dazed by that fact.
"Omg, shouldn't we get a nurse?" Zac asked quickly running to the door, opening it and then shouting for a nurse.
The nurse shortly came rushing in and asked what was wrong. Leo told her what had happened and she began to examine her, she checked the monitor for brain activity and said that Prudence had actually squeezed his hand.
