Once the two siblings — and new pet Lucky — returned to their apartment they let Lucky out to roam free, whilst the dog was busy doing his own thing the siblings set up most of the dog's things eg. The food bowl by the kitchen counters and the bed in Leonards room, they also cleared up space on the key holder by the front for the dog's leash.Leonard went up to Lucky and had started to play with him, tickling behind his ears and under his chin, whereas Prudence went to their balcony and stared at the sky. Prudence looked down at the river below and how the sunset made the water turn orange and pink, she also admired the birds as they flew past.
Just as she was looking at a bird she saw an aeroplane fly past and she immediately thought about her job and how she used to fly, just like the birds that were now flying past her.
"Leonard?"
"What's up?" he asked still playing in the kitchen with the puppy.
"Do you think I could fly?" she asked.
"Of course you could, you could just go back to work" he answered.
"So I could fly like a bird?" she asked.
"Yeah sort of," he said still not paying attention to her.
Prudence thought for a moment and then saw another bird fly by.
She wanted to fly.
To fly she had to be in the air, so she grabbed a hold of the balcony bannister and hoisted herself up. Now she was stood on the balcony bannister holding onto the brick behind her.
Leonard wasn't looking, he was still playing with the pup.
"Hey Leonard, come watch me fly" she shouted, turning her head towards the kitchen where he and Lucky were.
Leonard stood and turned to her sister where she was stood on the bannister and his face dropped.
"Prudence stop!" he shouted and just as he ran to grab her down she jumped with her arms out wide.
He got to the bannister and then heard the splash of water from Prudence's collision to the river. He rushed to the phone and dialled 911 for an ambulance and told them the situation whilst rushing down towards the river.
Once he was down Leonard rushed into the water to where Prudence had landed and went under to try and get her. The ambulance got to the scene quickly and one man came to held Leonard in his search, now two people looking for her the job was finished quicker and Leonard pulled his sister up shouting for the paramedic who was searching for her too. The two men then took her to the shore and she was given CPR and was pulled onto a stretcher.
Once in the ambulance, Prudence started to breathe again and Leonard was so thankful.
