Tiffany cracked open her eyes and blinked a few times, trying to register where she was. Sitting up, she groaned softly as she looked around. From what she could see, she was in the hospital. She rubbed her head slowly. Her mind was foggy and she couldn't think straight. She glanced down at her arm, noting the IV there. At the moment she wore a hospital gown, something she hated to wear. She hated hospitals the most though. A place filled with the scent of death and illness.
"You're awake." Darius said as he entered the room.
"Darius?" She mumbled with confusion.
"Seems like the medicines haven't wore off yet." He chuckled, the sound filling the small hospital room.
"Medicine? What happened?" She knew where she was, but couldn’t recall why she was there.
Darius sat down on the seat next to her bed, "You're fine, just had a bit of internal bleeding, but not to serious. They had to do surgery though to repair the damage."
She looked back down at her stomach, noticing it did still hurt, but not as bad. The skin felt tender too. Surgery? Wow, she had never had surgery before, never.
"How's Melody?" She asked.
"She's fine, they have her on antibiotics at the moment. She has an infection. She also had a few broken ribs and a broken leg, so they did what they could. She is resting and should be as good as new in a few months." He explained.
Tiffany winced at what he said, her poor dog was in worse shape than she was. Tiffany glanced over at Darius, he seemed tired and wore out. She felt bad for him. So much was going on and he had to deal with it. She wished she could help him out, then maybe he wouldn't look so tired.
"Are you ok?" She asked him with concern obvious in her voice.
"I'm great!" He exclaimed with a wide grin.
She frowned, was he really ok? She couldn't tell. He seemed ok, except for the dark circles under his eyes and the 5 o'clock shadow upon his jaw.
“How about Victor?” She asked suddenly.
Darius frowned for a moment, glancing down at his hands. “Seems like he got away. I am not sure how, but don’t worry too much, you are safe and that’s all that matters.”
Tiffany felt fear grip her heart at just the mention of Victor still being out there somewhere. Would the same thing possibly happen again? She didn’t want to always be on the run. She wanted freedom.
"Can I go home?" She asked with a frown, changing the subject.
"Sadly, not tonight, they said they want to keep an eye on you overnight." Darius sighed.
"Oh..." She said, averting her eyes.
