Connor's POV

"Please Connor! It'll be fun!" Cynthia begged as she sat down at the dinner table.

"Why can't you take Zoe?" I asked as I stabbed my whatever-Cynthia-was-into-now lasagna.

"Can't. I'm sleeping over at Alana's." Zoe interrupted with a smirk.

"Fuck you." I spat. She waved her middle finger in my face before turning back to her food.

"Please just come with me Connor! We can bond! I can tell you some of my old ice skating stories." Cynthia pleaded. I glanced over at the empty place across from me where Larry would've sat.

"Get out of my house Larry!" I heard someone scream from downstairs. I looked up from my tumblr and walked over to my door. I gently pulled it open and peered outside.

"Cynthia please, just think for a moment! Do you really want to throw all that we have away for that fag?" Larry shouted. My heart stopped.

I know that he didn't mean Zoe.

She hadn't come out yet.

But neither had I.

"Get the fuck out! Never come back!" She yelled in his face as she pushed him towards the front door. There was an suitcase packed laying right next to it. When she finally got Larry outside, Cynthia threw the bag out onto the lawn.

"Fine. I'll go." I grumbled. Cynthia smiled and her eyes sparkled. Zoe stopped eating and looked over at me, her eyes wide.  I shrugged and slouched in my chair.

I'm going to regret this, aren't I?

Evan's POV

"Hi honey! I'm so sorry I won't be able to make it. Naomi took off and I had to pick up her shift." Mom told me.

"I-It's alright." I sighed. This had happened so many times before that I was used to it by now.

"I love you sweetie! Have fun! Good Luck! Oh, and tell Jared I said hi! Bye honey!" She exclaimed before ending the call.

"So. She's not coming?" Jared asked from behind me. I shook my head and squeezed my eyes shut.

It still hurt when she couldn't show up.

A few tears slid down my cheeks as Jared patted my back.

"Look on the brightside! Maybe we can do something rebellious after the competition!" He announced, trying to cheer me up. I shrugged and wiped away my tears.

"I'm g-going to p-practice a little more." I told him as I sat down on the bench behind me and out my skates on.

Connor's POV

"Here we are!" Cynthia cheered as she pulled into an empty parking space. She parked the car and looked over at me.

"C'mon, let's go! Maybe we can catch some skaters practicing." She said as she pushed her car door open. I did the same and hopped out.

"Did you know I used to compete every weekend? My father never approved but my mother always encouraged me. She payed for the coaches and the costumes and drove me everywhere." She admitted as we crossed the lot that was starting to fill up.
