TW: Very slight mentions of abusejimmytaketheshot came up with the drugstore idea
Also its modern day cause I'm a lazy bitch
Veronica's POV
I wrapped my sweater around myself tighter, protecting myself from the wind and the last few hours.
Even though I had broken up with J.D a while ago, he wouldn't stop coming back. He tried his best to get me to take him back. He went from sweet to threatening, then back to sweet again.
It would never work.
I will never, ever go back to him.
I kept my head down as I walked past the 7-Eleven, focusing on the asphalt beneath me. J.D was probably in there. I could practically feel him glaring at me through the windows.
I picked up the pace until I finally reached Walgreens. The doors slid open and I stepped inside, peering around the almost empty building.
I didn't even know why I was here.
All I knew was that I needed to get out of the house. So here I was.
I wandered down the aisles, wasting time. There was really nothing that I needed here.
Just as I was about to walk out, I saw a flash of familiar red. I glanced around the store until I finally found her.
Heather Chandler, in a Walgreens at 3 in the morning, looking at Corn Nuts.
"Hey." I murmured as I walked closer. She whipped around, glaring, until she realized it was me.
"Hey V. What're you doing here?" She asked as she turned back to the display.
"I needed to get out." I shrugged. She nodded, and a silence fell over us.
J.D being an abusive asshole wasn't the only reason why I broke up with him.
I may or may not have developed feeling for a certain mythic bitch.
"What're you doing here?" I questioned.
"Bored." Heather explained as she turned around, a bag of BQ Corn Nuts in hand. I silently followed her to the check-out, grabbing a package of Twizzlers along the way.
We didn't speak as she paid for both items and walked out. I quickly caught up with her and opened up the Twizzlers.
"What did he do this time?" She asked quietly, opening up her snack.
"Nothing new. The same old threats he's been using, but he got a little too close for comfort." I told her. She sighed.
"You can't just keep suffering this V. You have to tell the cops or someone." She muttered. I looked over at her. There in the moonlight, at 3 something in the morning, Heather Chandler had never looked more beautiful.
Or worried.
"I'm a big girl Heather. I can handle it myself." I reassured. She shook her head.
"Just..consider it. Please." Heather begged.
"I'll think about it."
I saw her shoulders relax, and silence settled over us again.
Every now and then I looked over at her, just admiring her. She looked so peaceful for once.
Too soon we arrived at my house.
"I guess this is it." She said. With a little wave, she started walking again.
"Heather, wait!" I called out as I rushed back over to her. My hands found her waist and pulled her closer to me as I pressed my lips against hers.
"Good night." I whispered, breathless, as I walked back up to the front door. I turned around as I opened the door and saw her shocked face. I gave her the same little wave.
Maybe tonight wasn't so bad after all.
