( chapter twenty; mutuAl feelings )▂▂▂▂
THE KISSING ROCK. That was the only place Madison could think of to go to. So that's where she and Jason were. Nobody was there and Madison knew that not many people went there as much as they did during her freshman and sophomore years.
She stared at the huge rock that sat in the same place it always had. Madison took a seat on it as Jason leant against it. The brunette looked towards the man, "You know, the last time I thought about this rock, I wanted to bring you here, guess I finally did."
"It's just a rock." Jason stated.
Madison nodded, "I said that once too. But it probably brought a lot of people happiness, or just a sloppy kiss."
"And all them years ago, that's what you were hoping for?" Jason asked, "A sloppy kiss?"
She exhaled a soft laugh, meeting his gaze, "No. All I knew was I wanted to be with you."
It fell silent as Jason dropped his gaze to his hands. After a few seconds, he cleared his throat, "When I came back into town, I didn't call because I wanted to come surprise you. Then I get to your house and see you on the doorstep, with someone else. I didn't let myself get jealous because I thought they're obviously just friends but then he kissed you, and you didn't pull away."
"I did." Madison told him, her voice low, not wanting to get into an arguement, "I did pull away, Jason."
Jason turned his head to look at her, "It didn't look like that from where I was stood, Madi."
"I hesitated for less than a second, but there's a reason for that." She let out a sigh, dropping her gaze from his, "Jason, since you left last year, I haven't kissed anyone but you. I haven't wanted to kiss anyone."
"Why did you hesitate?" He questioned.
"Because I needed to know what I felt, Jason." Madison told him, "And that stupid kiss confirmed everything for me. I felt nothing for him. And in comparison to you, God, it was just bland. But it's so different with you and... I'm scared."
Jason's eyebrows furrowed, "Why are you scared?"
"Because you are literally the only person I have ever felt like this for, and it's so strong I can't even describe it." She responded, her eyes welling up, "You're all I have, Jason, but you keep abandoning me too."
"Hey, hey." He turned his body to face her, lifting her chin up with his hand so she was looking at him, "I was angry, okay? I didn't mean what I said, coming back here wasn't a mistake. The only mistake I made was leaving you in the first place. That's not going to happen again, Madi."
"How do you know that?" Madison asked, "Because we just keep running away, and hiding from everyone."
"I made a promise, and I intend on keeping it until my last breath. And I don't care about anyone else, I just care about you." Jason replied, his thumb gently brushed against her soft cheek.
As much as she loved the feeling of his touch on her skin, she lifted her hand and took his off her face. Madison pushed herself off the rock and took a few steps from it, inhaling a deep breath.
Jason furrowed his brows in concern, "Madi?"
"You told me I was the problem." Madison said, glancing around at the woods infront of her to prevent the tears, "I'm the one that drives people away and hurts them."
He shook his head, "I was upset."
"But you knew what you were saying, Jason." Madison spun around to face him, "So there's some truth behind it."
Jason moved towards her, "We're never gonna sort this out if we keep moving backwards."
Madison's eyebrows crushed together, "I wanted to sort this out ages ago but you keep leaving, why? Is it my fault?"
"Because I'm not good at this, Madi." Jason frowned too, his voice raising a little, "I don't know what I'm suppose to do."
Madison's voice raised to match his, "You're suppose to sit and talk, Jason. You took an easy way out. You keep taking the easy way out. I was trapped in this crappy town after Alison went missing. I lost you, my dad, my bestfriends, my mom, my brother and myself. I was alone."
"What? Do you want me to apologise that my sister went missing, Madison?" Jason continued to frown, "That she was found dead? And that it was too much for me and my family to stay in the same house she grew up in?"
"I want you to realise what effect it had on me." She yelled, "We could've helped each other, Jason. My dad divorced my mom. My brother got alcohol poisoning. My mom is depressed. I could barely make it through a day without breaking down. You weren't the only one with family problems."
"Are you forgetting I had to look after my mom and dad too?" He questioned, "They lost their daughter. I had to help them."
"Did you help yourself too?" She asked, "To numb your pain?"
Jason frowned at her, "What the hell are you talking about?"
"You took drugs!" Madison frowned, "The Jason I knew would never have done that. He wouldn't have left with no explanation. He wouldn't have taken drugs, or drowned himself in alcohol. He wouldn't have shut himself away from the world."
"Why do you care so much?" He yelled.
"Because I love you." Madison screamed back, unintentionally.
She fell silent, her mouth ajar in shock that she'd just let it slip out. Her breathing was heavy from the yelling and the feeling those words shot through her body. She'd never said them out loud romantically to anyone.
Jason's insides were a whirlwind, just like hers. He wasn't expecting her to say that, he didn't know how to react. After a moment, he lunged forward and cradled her face in his hands as his lips crashed onto hers. Both their hearts were racing as though they'd just ran a marathon.
Their lips moved in perfect sync, and Madison finally got her wish: to be with Jason at the kissing rock. Although it took two years, and under odd circumstances, it happened. Jason broke from her lips, the both of them breathing heavily.
His forehead remained pressed on hers, "I guess you finally got your sloppy kiss."
"More like perfect." She replied before she placed her hand on the back of his neck and reattached her lips on his.
