AS CONCIOUSNESS HIT MADISON, she could hear the faint sounds of beeping around her and felt a squeeze on her right hand. She grumbled a little, opening her sore eyes.
Madison could see a figure sat beside her and blinked to clear her vision, "Ezra?"
"Yeah, I'm here." He responded, giving her hand another gentle squeeze.
"What happened?" Madison asked, glancing around the hospital room she was in.
"What do you remember?" Ezra asked.
"I was at school, talking to Spencer and we were arguing and then..." Madison paused, thinking as hard as she could, "nothing."
"You passed out." Ezra told her, "I took you into the nurses office but because you hit your head, they suggested taking you to hospital."
Madison's eyebrows pulled together, "But you don't work at the school anymore?"
"I had a meeting with Principal Hackett." He responded.
"Did someone call my parents?" Madison asked him, pushing herself up on the bed, "Because I don't want them here."
"We had to." Ezra exhaled, "But I should go before they come."
Madison shook her head and held his hand with both of hers, keeping it in place, "You're the only person I wanna see, Ezra."
He exhaled an unsure breath, "If your mom sees me here, who knows what'll happen."
Katherine hadn't met Ezra, but she clearly knew he existed, not to mention Madison had practically yelled that Ezra was her brother to her mom's face. Madison lightly shrugged, "Maybe that's a reason to stay?"
"Okay, here's the deal." Ezra locked his gaze on Madison, "I need to go back to Hollis for a class, but if you call me I will be straight here."
Madison took in a breath, wanting him to stay but she knew she couldn't. She nodded, "Deal."
A small smile spread on Ezra's lips before he stood and pressed a soft kiss to Madison's forehead. He squeezed her hand one last time, "Feel better soon. I'll see you later."
She smiled at him but it slowly faded as she watched him leave. Madison didn't want to see her parents, not after she saw them kissing. Katherine had broken Nate's heart and Madison didn't want that to happen again.
