"WES?" EZRA REPEATED, UNSURE. He took the envelope from Madison's hands and analyzed the handwritten name. He then turned it over and took out the letter, muttering the words under his breath as he read it.

"Dear Madison, I found some old returned letters that are addressed to and belong to your mom. The reason I sent them is because I need you to know the truth about my dad, who happens to be both of ours. He had an affair, which hurt my mom and obviously your dad. I'm not sure if you already know this but I've only just found out, and thought you deserved to know too."

"I was hoping the letters would sway you not to contact him after he broke your family, but I know that you've been trying to. So, I sent a message to him on your behalf, so you can really see the type of person our father is. Just talk to him once, you will find out exactly who he is. Sincerely, Wes, your half-brother."

"Miles came to my house," Madison told Ezra, "and I sent him away."

"And now you want to see him again?" Ezra questioned, folding the letter up again and slipping it into the envelope.

"I don't know." Madison sighed, "I did, but now I've actually seen him in the flesh, all I felt was anger. Like, he's the one that caused my parents to divorce. I'm not sure bringing him into my life is a good idea."

Ezra exhaled, "I understand."

Madison took the envelope from Ezra, looking down to it in her hands, "But Wes did say to talk to him just once. Maybe I should. Maybe he could explain everything, considering my mom still hasn't."

"Just do what's best for you, Madi." Ezra said, Madison met his gaze, "No matter what happens, I'll always be here for you."

Madison felt her heart fill and a warm, grateful smile spread onto her face. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around Ezra's neck, resting her head on his shoulder, "Thank you."

She stayed in his arms for a moment longer, just feeling safe around him. Madison broke apart from Ezra and inhaled a breath as she smiled again, "Okay, enough soppiness and moaning about my problems. How about I beat your ass at Scrabble?"

Ezra chuckled, nodding his head, "You're so on."

After spending the rest of the night at Ezra's, Madison was feeling a little better over all her problems. She felt as though his apartment and his company was her safe place, everyone else felt too intimidating.
