—SUMMER, 2013.

"hey, lucas," she said, smiling whilst holding the phone to her ear, "what's up?"

"hey, jane. could we.. meet up?" he asked on the other side of the phone, worry evident in his shaky voice.

"uhh, sure. why what's wrong? you sound really nervous right now.."

"i need to talk to you.. about something.. please meet me at the usual place in 10 minutes."

"okayy.. but what is it abou-"

and with that, lucas ended the call. jane began to bite her lip, and she walked to her closet to get ready.

lucas continued to bite his nails as he waited for jane, guilt enlacing his heavy heart. his expression was melancholic, and his eyes screamed in pain. he told himself not to cry when he saw her, and when he was going to tell her.

he started to hear footsteps gradually getting louder; he knew who it was, and he started to dread.

"lucas, are you okay? what's going on?" jane questioned whilst cupping his face into his hands.

lucas proceeded to take her hands and take them off his face, trying not to shed tears.

"jane.." he quietly started. "i'm breaking up with you."

the girl stared at him, her heart practically on the floor. her eyes started to water and her lips started to tremble.

"w-why?" jane managed to let out. "why? did i do something wrong? did i-"

"i just don't love you anymore."

the words broke both of their hearts. they both knew it was a lie. they both knew it was too good to be true. she saw right through his lie.

"you don't mean that.. take it back," she pleaded.

"i never did love you. i'm sorry."

lucas turned his back on the heartbroken girl, releasing the tears he tried so hard to hold in. jane stood there, calling for him, but he knew not to go back. he couldn't.

walking towards a car, he took out a piece of paper from his inside pockets.
