I woke up tucked in my bed still in my clothes that I wore the day before. I could hear the waves crashing and bashing and the bright sun shone into my room. I got out of bed and smoothed my hair. So much can happen in a matter of one day. I opened my door and strode downstairs. My Aunt Jade was sitting at the dining room table reading the local newspaper.
"Good morning! Did you sleep okay?" She stood up and started to make more coffee.
"Yeah, I slept fine." I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes.
"Where is everyone?" I asked. Aunt Jade sat down a mug with a palm tree on it
"Kary, Stephen, and Tom are out." She took a sip of her coffee. I glanced out the window and saw Kary chasing Stephen with wet sand and he was running and laughing. Uncle Tom was sitting in the sand waxing a surf board. It was only after ten in the morning, but the beach looked pretty busy.
"You should go out too." Aunt Jade leaned on the counter and I realized the only thing I had forgotten happened to be a bathing suit. My cheeks got pink and I grumbled to myself.
"What is it?" I put my hand over my forehead.
"I forgot something." Aunt Jade put her hands on her hips and studied me. Then she started to laugh.
"Don't tell me you forgot a bathing suit." She laughed at me and my cheeks grew to be red. She came up to me and hugged me.
"It's okay. We have shops here. I'll tell Kary to show you around and go shop." She handed me $20.00.
"Find yourself something pretty, Marley!" She danced into the other room.
Two hours later, Kary and I were right in front of one of the clothing stores in Rockford Bay. The sign was neon green and in neon orange letters it said Beachy Vibes with peace signs all over the sign.
"One of my favorite stores." Today, Kary wore a pink cover up over her bathing suit and she wore dark blue Old Navy flip flops. She was wearing aviator sunglasses and her wet hair was thrown into a ponytail. I wore denim capri's with white flip flops and a light green t-shirt.
We walked into the store and a little bell dinged. The place smelled like oranges. We walked over to a clearance bathing suit rack and Kary looked at me as if saying, "Go on...look."
I started looking at the bathing suits while Kary looked at the other rack. All of them were either huge or so small a tiny four year old couldn't fit. I turned and looked at Kary. She was moving fast around the rack and all of the sudden her eyes grew huge. She held up a tie-dye bikini with a cropped top. Naturally being a girl and all I went over to her and squealed.
"It's adorable!" I found one my size and we walked over to the dressing room.
"Dude, you're gonna look hot!" We both laughed. I went into one of the dressing rooms and closed the curtain. I put it on and looked in the mirror. Kary was right. My mouth hung open and I twirled to see how it looked in the back. It was adorable. With my curvy figure I looked just like the model on the price tag. Which I don't know if that's good or bad.
I walked out of the dressing room and showed Kary. She clapped and smiled.
"YOU LOOK AWESOME!" She shouted getting some rude looks from the few customers.
"You're going to make so many friends and get a hot surfer boyfriend." I laughed until she said hot surfer boyfriend. I had Jay.
"Well, minus the hot surfer boyfriend part." She nodded.
The bathing suit was on sale for $14.00 and I still had a little money left from Aunt Jade. Kary told me about an Ice cream place down the block which had amazing hot fudge sundaes. We hopped on the parked golfcart and drove to "Mickey's". We walked in and I smelled fudge, candy, and ice cream combined. This place was heaven according to Kary. We ordered "The Triple Cone". It was a waffle cone with vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry scoops. We bought our ice cream and strode out the door discussing the latest happenings on Teen Wolf. We drove the golf cart back to the house.
I showed Aunt Jade my bathing suit and she loved it just as much as I did. After I showed Aunt Jade, Kary and I went out and sat on hot pink towels reading Teen Vogue. After, I read a section on summer hairstyle ideas Kary spoke,
"This summer is going to be awesome. I'm glad I finally have a sister." She leaned over and put her arm around me. I smiled at her, but wasn't in a mushy gushy mood so I stood up.
"Race ya!" I started running and she yelled something about being unfair.
Then we both dove into the waves.
