I stood by the wall with a drink in hand- sipping it slowly, Looking over at my friends who were dancing like there was no tomorrow. I looked down at the gift from my parents which I was wearing tonight- it was a black golden sequined dress with a sweetheart neckline. It was my birthday present. I had gone home around noon to celebrate my birthday with my parents. I told them that I was keeping a party with friends to keep them convinced but didn't mention the fact that none of them knew that it was my birthday today. The only reason being that this was the day Nish had broken my heart years ago. So I wouldn't like everyone to wish me happy birthday and remind me of that day.
I also noticed Tara talking to Afreen in one corner of the club. I noticed Clar and Aadi dancing together. I smiled remembering clar had taken extra time dressing up just to impress Aadi, only if she knew that he was already impressed by her.
"Hey" a masculine voice spoke up bringing me back from my dream world. I looked to my left to find Nish smiling a bit awkwardly at me
"Hi" I replied back he then took hold of my hand and my heart started hammering in my chest but he just clipped something to my hand, I brought it closer to my face to examine it- it was beautiful. It was made of gold with different coloured pearls attached to it. I loved it but why did he give this to me?
"It's amazing" I said
"Glad you liked it...happy birthday may" he said and my heart clenched
"You remembered"
"Obviously it's my best friend's birthday" he said smiling at me, I looked at my feet
"Things aren't the same now nishu"
"I know...but I wish they were" just thinking about those days made me want to cry how I wish I had them back
"You know what I think I've got to go" I said walking away from him
"Wait..." he said holding me hand stopping me, I sighed and turned around
"Cant we forget that day for one night? Please may?" he said and my heart beat increased...that look on his face...it was just like the earlier days, before he changed
I nodded and stopped as he smiled in relief
"Thank you" he said and I didn't respond... an awkward silence engulfed us
"So how are you?" he asked
"I'm fine...what about you?"
"Yeah I'm good" he said
More awkward silence
"You've changed" I stated
"How?"
"You didn't sleep around back then" I said and he chuckled
"And by the way I haven't f*cked Mandy"
"Really? Cause what I saw yesterday..."
"I know I know...I made out with her but didn't sleep with her"
"Um hmm"
"I just do that when I'm really stressed out"
"Okay"
More awkward silence
"So why did you say that I was 'your girl' in the JMB Party?"
"No reason I just didn't want that guy to be anywhere near you"
"And why is that?"
"I just didn't like him"
"Okay"
More awkward silence
"I hate this!" he exclaimed
"Hate what?" I asked
"this" he said motioning us with his hands "we used to be so...free around each other, we used to talk about nothing for hours and now... we can't even talk properly for ten minutes without an awkward silence settling between us"
"Things have changed after..." I trailed off and his expression noticeably hardened
"Nish...I really think I should go" I said starting to walk away and he let me. I sighed when again someone held my hand
Thought too soon didn't ya
An annoying voice in head said
"May I'm not done yet" he yelled over the music, I turned to face him, he took two strides till he was standing right in front of me, I looked up at him and he was looking down, his gaze fixed at my eyes. There was something in his chocolate brown orbs which made my heart beat increase even more.
"Just one more thing before you go" he whispered but I heard it over the loud music and he kissed me. So many things happened at the same time. My heart skipped a beat before beating against my chest at an alarming fast pace. His lips moved softly against mine. It took all my self-control to not kiss him back...to constantly remind myself that he had broken my heart once. Slowly his right hand rose up to cup my cheek, his left hand still holding mine. It was then that I found all my resistance crumbling. My eyes slowly closed in pleasure. I felt his tongue flick against my lips and that was it. The loud music of the party no longer registered in my mind. My mind was blank. At that moment it didn't matter what he had done or what I had done. At that moment all I wanted to do was to kiss the guy I love and that's what I did. I kissed him back passionately. After a few seconds he pulled away and studied my expression as we caught our breath.
When our gaze met I noted that he looked nervous but as soon as he registered my pink cheeks his smirk came back. With his hands still resting on my cheek he slowly leaned in again...and this time, I leaned in too. The kiss was sweet. The feel of his soft but firm lips against mine was incredible. It felt like my brain was melting down my body incapable of being able to register the intensity of the kiss. I had imagined this moment for so long! And now that it was here I didn't know what to do with it... I was still kissing him as passionately as I could when I heard loud hooting around me.
It was my party and I was kissing the guy I swore to hate for the rest of my life senseless. In front of the whole school.
F*ck.
I pulled back but Nish didn't seem to get it. He rested our foreheads together his eyes still closed as we caught our breath. He looked completely at peace...and this confused me. I pulled back completely. He looked at me confused but everything had started to come back to me and I just couldn't stay there anymore. I slowly backed away till I was one with the crowd. I could hear Nish yelling my name but I rushed out of the party as gently as I could and caught a taxi. As I sat in the taxi and looked back I saw Nish running out too...his eyes searching something desperately. His eyes met mine and he stopped he splinted towards me but the driver had already started the car. I quickly told him where I wanted to go and rested my head on the head rest as my heart finally started to slow down to normal pace and I tried to get hold of the thousand emotions flowing in my body.
