Chapter 14
Sacrifice
I opened the door quietly…it was beyond midnight and I didn’t want to wake Tara up. It had been lonely without Clar being at home…yet at least she had moved out in good terms, and we did stay with each other at college so it’s not like we don’t see her. I removed my shoes and tip toed towards my room when I heard squealing and giggling inside the other room. I stopped to listen.
“Stop…stop!” a girl said giggling uncontrollably; I then heard a male voice laughing quietly.
“Afreen…you should really go home” the girl said faking a stern voice
“Nh-uh you said I can stay here until Myra comes back”
“And how do you know that she isn’t back? … For all we know, she could be eavesdropping our conversation right now” I heard the girl say and I had to fight to control my laughter, my best friend knows me too well
“Then let her… I don’t want to go back tonight” I heard his say, that’s when I started feeling embarrassed to listen in to their conversation
“But you know you have to go right?” Tara said sadness evident in her voice.
“Yes umm… about that… Tara, have you considered that possibility?” Afreen asked
“No Afreen I can’t do this to her.”
“Please darling?”
“No.”
“But why?”
“You know it baby”
“But even Clarice moved in with Aadi why can’t we live together?”
“Isn’t it too fast Afreen?”
“Do you really think it is Tara?” now there was absolute silence for sometime before Afreen said
“And it’s not like we’re sleeping together, I just want to spend as much time with you as I can Tara, I love you”
“I love you too Afreen…but what about Myra?”
“She can stay with my room-mate”
“Are you f*cking kidding me? You don’t know what happened between her and Nishit. I can’t let her live with that piece of sh*t! You think I will sacrifice her happiness for mine?”
“No but…”
“But what Afreen? She’s my best friend and I can’t let her suffer everyday for a few hours extra with you”
“I think you’re just over reacting, whatever happened was past right? They both should deal with it in a mature way and get past their differences”
