My dreamless sleep was awaken by a stormtrooper walking into the cell.
"Let's go. Ren needs you."
"I'm not goin' anywhere for that brat."
I open my eyes to see the trooper walking towards me. He looks over his shoulder before turning back to me.
"Look, I'm trying to break you out, so get up." he whispers as he releases my restraints. I rub my wrists soothingly. My eyes glance up to the trooper, his intents peak my interest. His thoughts come to me with ease. That's when I recognize him. He's the rogue from Jakku. Immediately, the trooper grabs my arm and pulls me towards Poe's room. I am standing next to Poe, seeing that he is all beat up. Tears brim my eyes. What did that bastard do to you?
"Ren wants the prisoners." The rogue says to the other stormtrooper — who releases Poe's restraints. Roughly, Poe is pushed out of his holding. I catch him quickly and push him up.
"Thank you." Poe breathes. The stormtrooper grabs our arms and rushes us down the hall. I look to Poe as he struggles to keep up, but is quickly recovering. The trooper tells us to turn, then shoves us into a small corner closet.
"Listen carefully. If you do exactly as I say, I can get you both out of here."
Poe looks up to him in disbelief.
"What?" his broken voice sends a shiver down my spine. Poe is never broken this easily. Suddenly, the trooper pulls off his helmet, showing his dark complexion.
"This is a rescue. I'm helping you escape. Do you know how to fly a TIE fighter?"
"You're with the Resistance?" I ask.
"What?" He squints his eyes, taken back by my question, and shakes his head. "No, no, I'm breaking you out. Can one of you fly a TIE fighter--"
"I can." I snap. "But, why are you helping us?"
The trooper straightens out and looks at us seriously. As if he's been ready for us to ask him that question.
"Because it's the right thing to do."
"You need a pilot." Poe says.
"I need a pilot." the trooper answers uncertainly.
"Let's do this."
"Yeah?"
Who the hell is this kid? He doesn't know what he's doing, but he's helping us escape so he's is our best bet... our only bet. After the pep-talk, we begin to walk towards the TIE fighters. Making sure it looked like we were being brought somewhere.
"Okay, stay calm, stay calm." the trooper whispers. I look at him.
"I am calm." Poe whispers back.
"Wh-- I was talking to myself!" he whispers back to Poe. As we make our way in, I jump into the driver's seat as the trooper jumps into the guard position. Poe on the other hand, stands next to him and talks him through how to shoot as I ready the TIE fighter.
"Poe, unhook the restraint attachment, please." I call back to him. He moves to the other side of the small ship and starts fidgeting around.
"I've always wanted to be in one of these." he mutters as he flips a few switches. A loud pop sounds outside of the TIE fighter.
"I think I got it." He says. I nod to him before steadily taking off. As we head towards the opening the side of the TIE fighter is yanked back.
"Poe!" I scream. That must've been the emergency break that he switched off. Now the entire place knows where we are.
