The few transports land on the snowy planet. The last of the Resistance walks solemnly into the large abandoned base. But the war was not over. It had just begun. Rey had not returned yet and neither has Finn or Rose. Leia orders everyone to arm themselves and stand ready for the enemy ships that will soon follow. Her grey figure stands quietly at the open hangar door of the base. She stares into the distance for what felt like hours before the familiar roar of TIE fighters fly behind a First Order ship.
"They're coming. Shut the door." She says into her com-link. The Resistance begins to move quickly out of the way for the unceasing ships that barrel towards the small crack of a gateway. The loud rumble of the old metal erupts through the large hangar. Small ice pups come running in from the outside for shelter.
"Incoming!" A man screams. A sudden flurry of blasts fly through the small crack of the door.
"Go, go! Move!" I scream as I run alongside Poe.
"Get that shield door down!" He commands in suit. The rush of people clearing the deck sends a boost of adrenaline through my veins. The sudden crash of a ship smacking against the door shakes the base, tripping my footing up. Poe drags me behind one of the closest supply boxes as the ship comes to a halt. Everyone begins shooting at the enemy ship. Although they were to no avail. Suddenly, few voices yell from the ship.
"Hold your fire!" Poe shouts while raising a hand. Two heads slowly pop over the opening door.
"Finn?!" I yell, standing to my feet and jogging towards the ship.
"Finn!" Poe chuckles as he follows close behind. "Rose! You're not dead!" He exclaims. "Where's my droid?"
As if on cue, BB-8 comes tumbling out of the ship. He stops at our feet. I rub the top of its head affectionately before Poe engulfs the droid.
"Is this all that's left?" Rose asks almost too quietly. I look up at the two of them before sighing and shifting my eyes to my feet.
"I'm afraid it is, Rose..." I set my jaw. "But there are allies on the Outer Rim who will come to our aid. Don't worry."
She smiles softly to me. I help Finn and Rose out of the ship as the group makes their way to the control room, where much dusting is needed. Quickly we grab the old supplies and reboot them.
"All right, shields are up so they can't hit us from orbit." Poe calls to me and Leia.
"Use whatever power we have left to get a distress signal out to our allies in the Outer Rim, okay?" I command. The young officer nods her head understandingly while typing away at the nearest transmitter.
"Use my personal code. If there are any allies to the Resistance, it's now or never." Leia says sternly. I look up to see Rose walking into the room.
"Rose, what have we got?" I ask, grabbing Poe's attention.
"Rotting munitions, rusted artillery, some half-gutted skim speeders."
I run my hand through my hair before leaning against a table.
"Well..." Poe starts. "Let's just pray that big-ass door holds long enough for us to get help."
Before I could respond, a large boom shakes the base. Dust falls from the cracked ceiling. Ice pups cry out in discomfort. Immediately, Poe grabs my arm and pulls me to the closest pair of binoculars to look outside the walls. I look into them to see a large cannon-like object being turned towards the base. It's look is all too familiar.
