As the wind blows through the hanger. The hope of the Resistance has finally taken its last wave. Footsteps pat quietly as everyone turns their head to the only moving person. My eyes catch sight of a familiar Jedi robe. His long, greying hair reaches just above his shoulders as his eyes are set on the outside world.
Luke Skywalker. The Last Jedi.
My jaw drops in awe. A million thoughts run through my head, but only one remains -- our last hope is in him.
Out of the corner of my eye, Poe steps forward, watching Luke as well. The Jedi Master walks out slowly towards the First Order ships. He comes to a complete stop yards in front of the hangar. We all run up to watch from the control room. Immediately the Imperial Walkers start blasting all around Luke Skywalker. I gasp in surprise as hundreds of blasts ram into the red salt ground for a full minute. I hold onto Poe's arm as I watch the Last Jedi disappear in the red dust. When the last blast explodes into the ground, Poe pulls me into his chest and wraps his arms tightly around me. As the dust clears, a small shadow breaks through. I lift my head to see Skywalker standing in the same spot he was before, wiping the red dust off of his shoulder. The moments stretch on where we sit in amazement. Not a few moments later, I hear Finn yelling in the distance calling out for help.
I look up to Poe to see him look quickly down to me. Dashing out of the room, Poe and I run side by side to our friend -- who drags Rose in on a makeshift stretcher.
"She's hurt pretty bad..." he says as the medical team sprints past us. I come to a stop next to Finn and look to Rose. Her face is scraped up and her clothes are covered in soot. As I lean down to wipe the dirt from her face, a golden glimmer shines past her jacket. I pull back the collar of her jacket and retrieve a golden necklace. I let the string hang around my fingers. It's half moon shape is etched with solar details. My fingers brush against the gold when my eyes are pulled back out into the cold world. Kylo Ren's ship lands in the distant field in front of the hangar. The tall boy walking out in rage towards Luke Skywalker.
I stand to my feet slowly. A long, jagged scar runs down the right side of Kylo's face. A sickly look of vengeance stains his young complexion. My feet seem to have a mind of their own as I step towards him -- trudging through the salted ground.
Kylo draws his cloak back and takes out his saber. Stopping dead in my tracks, Luke and Kylo steady themselves for a moment. The boy dashes for a deadly strike but misses Luke entirely. Out of rage, Kylo tries to strike again, and again before they stop. My feet move forward again, my presence is still not known to them, but I can't stop myself -- something is pulling me towards them... Towards him.
"The Resistance is dead. The war is over." Kylo's voice echos against the hangar. "And when I kill you... I will have killed the last Jedi."
"Amazing." I finally hear Luke's voice. "Every word of what you just said... was wrong."
My feet crunch through the snowy salt.
"The Rebellion is reborn today..."
Kylo's eyes don't even flicker past Luke when I am less than ten yards from them.
"The war is just beginning."
I glances over his shoulder to me, causing me to stop.
"And I will not be the last Jedi." he mutters before turning back to Kylo.
"I'll destroy her... and you... and all of it." Kylo snaps.
Slowly, Luke lowers his saber.
"No." he mutters. "Strike me down in anger and I'll always be with you... Just like your father."
