Strife helps me stand to my feet. We walk to the girls' locker room and change into our uniforms. I grab a new one, since mine was blown to bits on Jakku.
"Here you are. All brand new, sent from General Organa herself."
I turn to Strife, who holds a brand new helmet up to me. The blue Resistance symbol is freshly painted and the mic set looks amazing. I take it quickly and examine it.
"You'll have to look at it later, hun. We need to get on our fighters."
I nod in response before quickly pinning my hair up and placing the helmet over it. I jog out with Strife by my side to the flight deck. My X-wing sits in the sunlight and waits for my return. I jog up to the ladder and climb it quickly. When I sit into my seat, I look at the familiar controls and run my fingers across them.
"It feels so good to be back." I whisper to myself while standing up and pulling down the head of the plane. Just as I am almost ready, I knock raps on the window. I turn to see Poe standing on the ladder and looking into the glass. I open it quickly and look to him while leaning on the side.
"May I help you, sir?" I ask sarcastically, a sly smirk planted on my lips.
"Just wanted to give a good luck to Commander Caden." he smiles.
"Thank you so much, Dameron, but I don't need luck." I say while shaking my head at him. He cocks an eyebrow. A gorgeous chuckle leaves his lips.
"But what I do need..." I start as I lean out of my seat. "Is a good ol' kiss from Commander Dameron." I breathe. His lips linger just inches from mine before he kisses me on the cheek. A confused smirk grows on my lips.
"You'll get one when you come back." he says while climbing down the ladder.
"Oh, you son of a--"
Just then, the radio pings on. It tells us to get ready within the next five minutes. I turn to see Poe jogging away while looking over his shoulder with a smirk. Smiling back at him, I shake my head before closing the hatch to my X-wing. I chuckle to myself while finishing up. When the time ran out, all the fighters fly up and file into a line.
Everyone ready? Poe asks over the intercom.
Red squadron ready. Strife says.
"Blue squadron ready." I say into my headset.
And the Black squadron is ready. Poe finishes.
All squads into hyper speed in T minus, 10, 9, 8...
I take a deep breath as my hand hovers over the light speed ignition.
4, 3, 2, 1... Go! Poe yells into the microphone.
One by one Resistance squadrons fling off into space.
Red squad, Blue squad, take my lead. Dropping out of light speed.
As the squads drop and pull around the large planet, we make our way to the Oscillator.
"Holy shit this thing is huge." I mutter.
Almost in range. Hit the target dead center. As many runs as we can get.
Everyone files down towards the Oscillator.
Alright, let's light it up!
As I come in towards the target, I blast as many times as I can.
Ah, direct hit! A pilot says over the intercom.
But no damage! Another one says.
Yeah, we gotta keep hitting it. Another bombing run. Remember, when the sun is gone that weapon will be ready to fire. But as long as there's light, we got a chance. Poe reasons with the other pilots. I feel the tug of the Force as I look over the planet. Suddenly, a fleet of TIE fighters making their way out of the planet as the last bombing round finishes.
