Tobias entered the hospital room. "Hey, Brenda, I got the pastries," he said, handing her two vanilla scones. "Oh, um, thanks," she said quietly. "Did you hear about the other fictional characters in the news?" Tobias asked. "No," Brenda lied. It wasn't exactly a lie, she hadn't heard it on the news. But she knew what he would tell her, that he was going to die and she would be alone. Brenda was not emotionally prepared for this. "Some of the fictional characters have been disappearing," he explained. "Nobody knows how. Maybe they die, or go back to their worlds, I don't know. What I do know is I don't want to live in a world without you. I saw a world without love once at the end of Allegiant. I don't want to see it again." "Me neither," agreed Brenda. "I don't want to raise these kids alone." Tobias knelt to the ground, pulled out a ring, and said, "Brenda Hayes, will you marry me?"
It didn't take long for Brenda to respond, "Yes."
