"Hi," Brenda said. "Hey, Brenda," Tobias replied. Brenda felt strange. Awkward, maybe. It was as if the hottest guy in the world had suddenly taken an interest in her, and she had no idea what to say or do. Wait, that was exactly what had been going on. "You want to go meet my dad?" Brenda asked. Brenda had to show her beautiful creation to her father, Mr. Hayes. A scientist himself, he had funded her experiments with creating the perfect soul mate. Or, in Brenda's case, creating Tris's perfect soul mate, and then making him her own. Like writing fanfiction, Brenda thought. "I'd love to meet your dad," Tobias said. "Alright," Brenda blushed. She held Tobias's hand and walked upstairs. I wonder what Dad will think, she thought. Brenda didn't even know her own opinion on what she had done. It felt so wrong, yet it felt so right. Stop worrying, she silently told herself. She headed into her father's study. "Hey Dad," Brenda said. "I'd like you to meet my boyfriend, Tobias." Mr. Hayes shook hands with Tobias, and whispered, "Good job, honey," to his daughter. Then he looked back at Tobias. "Say, son," he wondered aloud, "What's your favorite book?" "Divergent," answered Tobias. "Oh, nice," Mr. Hayes added. "Brenda loves that book." Tobias smiled and stepped away nervously. "This one's a keeper," Mr. Hayes told Brenda before she left.
