Chapter 20: Day of the exams

The fact that Robin might actually try to kill me today while I'm doing my exam didn't exactly worry me too much because Georgina's dream visions weren't always accurate...I was sure of it... Ms Fitzgerald wouldn't let me wear the immortals ring again because she thought I didn't have anything to worry about but I still couldn't stop my heart from racing as we left the castle and headed for the wooded boundaries beyond. My whole year was now standing outside of the maze or 'The Course of Death' as some of the guys were calling it because students sometimes get badly injured...you know with powers going hay-wire and all the monsters that are hidden in the hedges. We never know what we are going to find... The maze itself was at the very back of the castle grounds, tall and wide and disappeared into the horizon. There was just the one entrance carved into the leafy green walls but the sunlight struggled to reach far inside. I was staring at the entrance to the maze, wondering if this would be my last moments on Earth while my other class mates were waiting in anticipation and dread to begin the exam when a familiar voice spoke in my ear.

"You nervous?" Jace said while snaking his arms around my waist and planting a kiss on my neck. His body was warm from the fire within him and I nearly literally melted at his touch.

"Hah, no...I'm defiantly ready." I said already knowing that he wouldn't buy it.

"Huh, then why are you chewing the crap out of your poor lip?" He chuckled behind me. He was right; I was gnawing the hell out of my mouth but I couldn't help it. It was a bad habit I've always had.

"Have you seen Georgina around?" I asked while I craned my head, "I haven't seen her all morning."

"No, but she's probably with Ben." Jace opened his mouth to say something else but his words were drowned out by a megaphone that only just managed to be heard over the crowd.

"Right! I want group A to now stand in front of the entrance to the maze, your exam will start shortly!" One of the teachers yelled.

"Well that's me, wish me luck." Jace said. I quickly reached up and gave him a good luck kiss.

He smiled his cheeky grin and walked over to the entrance and stood with four other students who were about to enter the maze managing to be the only one who didn't look absolutely frightened.

"Alright! You are all allowed to use your abilities, just try not to kill anyone! There are several exits you are able to use once you have completed the course. You may begin...NOW!" And all five students ran into the maze, swallowed up by the darkness until I could see no more...not even Jace's fire illuminated the suffocating black.

I couldn't stand still for any longer and started pacing in front of the maze. I couldn't stop thinking about the possibility of Robin and his little Nazi soldiers hiding inside the maze just waiting to give me my overdue death sentence. Half an hour had passed and it was nearly time for my group to enter the maze next. I wasn't exactly good friends with any of the other students in my group, so I had no one to be nervous with. I could just imagine Jace running out of the exit which was on the other side of the maze looking all sweaty with a bright smile on his face looking proud of the way he survived the treacherous green mass. I got lost in my imagination, thinking about how hot he would look running out of the maze covered in sweat...his hair all messy with a gorgeous expression on his face that I almost missed my group announcement.

"Group B you will now enter the maze in, 3, 2, 1 START!" I bolted into the maze, my breathing picking up both from running and the nervousness I was feeling.
