We sat Cup O Joe's, which has become our meeting point, where we met every lunch break unless one of us couldn't make it.
"So how's your training coming along to becoming a lawyer." I asked."It's actually going great they said if my training goes well I can get my first job next month or so." he replied proudly."That's wonderful. I'm really impressed with what you've done, soon you'll be announced as lawyer Adrian...? he laughed as he realized I didn't know his surname. "It's Adrian Jake Stephens."
"Awe! I always liked the name Jake. That's so cute." Adrian rolled his eyes teasingly, "Typical women to like a guy with a hot name." he paused before asking, "So what's your full name?"
"Paige Eva Evans." I said thinking he would make fun on the sound of my second and last name, but he just sat there, staring straight at me. "What? Is my name not as 'hot' as yours?" He blinked as if only then registering that I was talking to him. "No that's not the problem...not that there's a problem...I mean I like your name. What I mean to say is" he paused and took a deep breathe, "It's a lovely name."
"Wow. All that stuttering just to give me a complement." I said. He sighed again, "Sorry about that. You know you mentioned earlier that you started on your first case. What was it?"
"Oh, its the Bryan Evans case, which I think you know about? I mean you did say it was an interesting choice."
"I did?"he said before he remembered, "Oh yes, I did. Yeah, I must have read it a few years ago. You have the same surname, is he your uncle or something?"
"My father, actually." I said and saw the realization in his eyes. Not waiting for him to ask, I answered, "Yes my father was killed and I still have literally no clue who did it. Just like you, i want to make a difference in the law and bring justice but i would also like to know why."
He looked at me with confusion in his eyes, " You mean you don't know why anyone would kill your father?"
"Not a clue." I wanted to continue our conversation but he seemed distracted and my lunch break would end soon so I ended our conversation. "I have to go, but I'll talk to you later." He nodded his head and i walked towards the entrance, just as i was about to leave, he said, "I'm sorry about your dad." It was my turn to nod before leaving.
