Chapter 18
Devon’s POV
My jaw hung opened as I watched the scene before me. I didn’t even realize Blake had arrived and was behind me the whole time with Clyde next to him. They all heard what Gavin had just said.
Ivan was staring blankly at him, unmoved. But I noticed how pale his face was as if blood had drained away. We were all just dumbfounded. Even Gabriel made no attempt to move. I had to do something. Ivan looked like he was about to faint. But the shock was too great it affected me as well. Before I knew it, Blake moved immediately grabbed Ivan and spun him around to leave the room. Ivan still looked shocked and just complied. My heart broke seeing him like this and it was just this morning he looked so refreshed and happy. I tugged at Gabriel sleeves until he turned to look at me. I gestured that I wanted to go after them and he nodded his head.
I sprinted and caught up with them as they entered the elevator. Blake stayed on his right side while I attached myself next to his left side. He really looked like he was about to pass out but Blake kept talking to him in questions, trying to get him to respond. I shook his hand gently, hoping to snap him out of his trance. He responded thankfully by gripping my hand tightly.
“We’re here, Ivan. It could be a temporarily condition. We’ll find out. Don’t worry too much. After all, he hit his head pretty hard,” Blake coaxed, rubbing the back of Ivan’s neck slowly. Ivan just nodded his head, not saying anything but I felt Blake words somewhat relieved him.

Gavin’s POV
Everyone was staring at me as if I had said something so shocking. Of course I was shocked. I had admired Dr. Wyse for his work and the fact that he was here it was amazing. I was surprised to see Blake who came together with Gavin as well. Why were they together? More to my surprise was Gabriel was here.
Mom had told me that I had hit my head during hiking training for Natgeo. I was too stunned because I couldn’t remember anything. The sound of someone clearing his throat made me look up. “Gavin Reeves?” an elderly man wearing a pure white robe came forward. I nodded my head. He was my doctor, I presumed. “I’m Dr. Green, your doctor.”
“I think your family has told you the reason you got here. And from what your father told me, it appeared that you somehow had forgotten about some details. Let me ask you a simple question, what year is it now?” he asked. I thought for a while and even though I couldn’t remember how did I manage to get into Natgeo team, I knew I was still studying in college. So I told them the year and I couldn’t help but notice the concerned faces my family was showing.
The doctor nodded his head, writing something in his writing board. “It seemed like you lost a portion of your memory. I say, about two years,” he stated finally. I blinked in surprise. Then I looked at my family and somehow, looking at my sister something clicked. The last time I saw her was that her hair had pixie cut. Now it was long. Her hair couldn’t get that long for the past week.
“You hair,” I began, reaching out for my sister. She immediately cried and went to hug me. “Two years?” I asked to no one in particular. My mom went to my other side and grabbed my hand, squeezing it tightly.
“Two years?” I said again, still in disbelief. “Calm down, son. It should be temporary, right?” my father asked as he looked at Dr. Green. Thankfully, he said yes. “It might be a temporary amnesia due to either head trauma or the sedatives delivered to your system while you were in surgery. I suggest you rest for a few days, no heavy duty chores, but all the while try to look at photos or journals or anything else that might help for you to recover your memories. I understand that this is shocking to you but believe me, this is normal for patients with head injury,” he elaborated. After a few more checks on my blood pressure and such, he greeted us goodbye and that I could leave the hospital by the end of the week. My family was beyond ecstatic.
