Hermione looked at her lap and then to her heavily bandaged arms. Dumbledore seemed to notice her line of sight since he sighed, "I fear the worst, my colleagues have known me for years, and simply saying I have a niece will cause a ruckus."
Hermione tucked a piece of her chocolate-colored hair behind her ear, "I never come unprepared, so please," she cracked her knuckles, with a sick grin on her face, "leave this to me."
As she continued to walk the familiar halls with Dumbledore she began to take her surroundings into account. "Is it similar to the Hogwarts in the future?" the curious professor inquired.
Hermione shook her head, "everything is so familiar, it's like..." she paused and ran her hand along the stone walls. "I've never left the old Hogwarts."
Dumbledore smiled, "I'm glad you feel a sense of belonging here, after all it is the same school."
Hermione nodded and took her hand off the wall, a grey dust still clinging to her fingertips.
As they neared the Headmasters office she took into account the peculiar carvings sketched onto the floor tiles. Dumbledore seemed to follow her gaze because soon after he said, "Those markings have been here forever, however I suppose they have gotten rid of them in the future. It's a shame really, only the headmaster can know what they mean."

"So you're saying, that," the Headmaster cleared his throat and pointed his aged finger at Hermione, "she is your niece?"
Dumbledore nodded, "Yes."
The Headmaster stared at Hermione for what like forever until a small smile appeared on his face, "you're right! She looks just like you!" He stood up and crossed the room, outstretching his hand for her to shake. Reluctantly she took his hand, with an awkward smile, "nice to meet you!" she willed herself to say.
"Alright, now that the introductions are done, why don't we sort you into a house. I am under the impression you wish to attend the school?"
Hermiones eyes lit up, "Yes!"
The Headmaster smiled and nodded "alright, let's see then." He began rummaging through his unorganized office, in an attempt to find the sorting hat. Hermione smiled slightly, being reminded of the complete contrast to Dumbledores office that this was. "Ah found it!" he slowly brought the hat out of a briefcase, then set it on his mahogany table. He motioned for Hermione to take a seat on the chair across from him. Quickly she sat down and waited for the sorting to begin. The Headmaster smiled and looked at Dumbledore, "your niece is quite excited!"
The Gryffindor professor smiled along with them, "of course, she has some very important things she wishes to accomplish here!"
"Well then, why keep her waiting?" he carefully placed the sorting hat onto Hermione's head. The familiar warmth of the hat brought all the memories she had been suppressing to the surface, slowly she shut her eyes, wanting to reminisce.
She was surrounded by thousands of flowers, each one unique and equally beautiful to those surrounding it. Hermione walked around the garden happily, she remembered this time in her life. "Hermione, come over here, it's your favorite flower!" a familiar voice called out. She gripped the time turner that was resting on her neck, and quickly made her way to the voice. Standing near the roses was her mother, who had not aged a single day. "Mother, but I thought I erased your memories of me?" The dentist shook her head and laughed, "did you hit your head? We could never forget you! Not even if you cast a spell on us!"
"But we all know magical isn't real, but even then it wouldn't work, you're stuck with us forever!" her father said, approaching the female Grangers. Hermione looked at her hands, a  crimson substance was covering them, "oh dear, you've sucked the life out of the roses too," her mother exclaimed. Hermione stepped away from her parents, this wasn't her memory, it was a nightmare. "Hermione, where are you going? Come back!" her father said angrily. She shook her head and began running in the opposite direction, but just as she had turned that way she was met with her father's figure, blocking her path. He grasped her shoulders, "finally, I can die, life wasn't worth living with a witch as a child!" As he touched the Gryffindor witch the life began to drain from him until finally, his lifeless body hit the ground in front of the frozen Hermione. Next, the mother placed her hands on her shoulders as well, meeting the same outcome. As she stood staring at their lifeless bodies with tears rolling down her cheeks she noticed that the crimson liquid that had been present on her before had disappeared.
Hermiones eyes opened immediately, fear evident in her brown orbs. The headmaster and Dumbledore were looking at her with puzzled gazes, and ever so slowly the hat began to speak to her.
I remember you, wanting to get sorted again huh?
Well I will still put you in the house which you belong to
"GRYFFINDOR" the hat bellowed. Dumbledore stood up from his seat and clapped his hands.
"Perfect, I shall take her to our dorms." The headmaster nodded and looked at Hermiones retreating figure with a very suspicious gaze.
