For maybe a month or so things played out the way it had that particular day; grandmother grew sicker so Red had to visit her more often, not that she really minded. Now there was someone, rather something, that she looked forward to visiting. But as time went on, she grew curious on what exactly had been protecting her from the shadows it refused to leave. Finally, on a day she didn't have to look to know it was there, she decided to satisfy her thoughts.

"Whatever you are, please come out. I'd like to thank you for keeping me safe these last few days." When she looked she saw her wild friend was nowhere to be found and got ready to turn away.

"You're a very pretty young girl." She whirled around and saw him; a wolf, casually leaning against a tree while playing with his tail. He raised his head revealing a pair of spiked whiskers set on a white face complete with dark eyes and an alluring smile.

She froze, of all the animals she expected a wolf wasn't one of them. Wolfs in the woods were known for eating humans without a second thought, luring them away from home beforehand. Frightened, Red took to her feet and ran off down the path, leaving the canine to watch her disappear.

As Red headed back home that evening, it accrued to her she had dropped the perfect steak she had planned to give to her predatory protector. At the edge of the trees she found the scraps and knew he had received it. She glanced back fearfully at the shadowed wilderness before walking towards home, knowing somewhere in the approaching twilight a pair of dark eyes watched her with never fading interest.
