Worst Conversation

Its been two and a half months since Jesse left and I can’t stand him not being here, but he’s gone and there’s nothing I can do about it.

I check the time on my alarm clock. It’s 9:30pm. He finishes late these days. After school classes and stuff like that. This is the only time we get to talk.

I decide to call him. He should be home now, I think.

It rings for about a minute, but I don’t put the phone down until someone picks up.

“Hello. Jesse, is that you?”

I hear laughing at the other end.

“Of course it’s me, who else would it be Eb.”

“Jesse! I miss you so much!”

“I miss you too. How you getting on with your A levels?”

“Great. What about you? Are you settling in ok?”

“Yeah, everyone’s really nice and I met these guys who seem cool. They’re in my classes.”

“That’s great. Well I’m glad you’re getting settled in fine.”

“Yeah I know, sorry babe. I gotta go. I’ve got so much work to do.”

My heart sinks as soon he says this.

“But it’s late, and I hardly get to speak to you.”

“I know, I’m sorry. It’s just I’ve really got to start this work.”

“Ok, speak to you soon.”

“Yeah, I love you so much.”

“I love you too, bye." I say before hanging up the phone.

I sigh, disappointed that this is the third time in more than two months that we've gotten to speak to eachother and it only lasts two minutes. Yay.

The next day me and Amelia decide to go meet up for a coffee.

I walk into Starbucks to find her chillin’ on the sofa. She doesn’t see me so I sneak up behind her, jump on her back and wrestle her to the ground. Everyone stares.

“Ah Ebony.” Amelia laughs as we sit up properly on this incredibly soft sofa.

“So how you been bro?” I ask sarcastically.

She hugs me tightly.

“I’ve been great. How are you? I’m sure your fine.” She says answering her own question.

“Ok then.”

I can tell she’s really hyper or something, she’s holding something back.

“What you been doing these past two weeks anyway?”

“Well, I’ve been doing gigs and stuff around the town. They’re really cool.”

“Aww. You should have told me, I would’ve come to see you.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll tell you about the next one that I’m doing soon.”

Her voice becomes higher.

“Ok, spit it out already.”

She covers her face to hide her chuffed expression.

“Amelia! Tell me!”

“Ok ok. I honestly can’t keep it in any longer anyway.”

“What?”

“You know I told you that I applied for the RWCMD!” she squeals.

“Yeah.”

“I got in!”

Immediately I jump into her arms.

“Oh my goodness! That’s amazing!”

I feel her smile on my shoulder.

“I’m so proud of you hun!”

“Thanks.”

We decide to get some food and a coffee.

I get a huge chocolate muffin and a Caramel Macchiato with Soya milk and cream. It’s my favourite.

When we sit back down Amelia asks me about Jesse.

“So how is Jesse?”

“Uhh. Ok I guess.”

“What do you mean, you guess?”

“It’s just that, obviously we can’t see eachother, but we don’t even talk that much. Whenever I find the right time to talk, he’s always got something else to do.”

“Don’t worry, maybe this is just at the beginning. You’ll get used to him not being around.”

“I already have, and even though it’s only been two months I don’t like it.”

“Just talk to him about it then, ok?”

“Yeah, when he has the time to talk.” I mumble under my breath.

“Come on, lets go.” she smiles.

As soon as I get home, I text Jesse saying that I need to talk to him. Urgently.
