Goner

A stinging burn woke me up out of my sleep as I shot up.

"Ow what the-" I say as I look around and then realize that I'm laying on my back on Bellamy's lap.

"It's about time you woke up" He says looking down at me as if he had been waiting for me to wake up.

"Well excuse me it's not my fault that we literally hiked five-hundred miles over the last couple days" I over exaggerate as I sit up to relieve the pain in my back. Then I look back to Bellamy who is examining his khaki pants closely on the leg. "What are you doing?" I ask looking at his leg to see what he was looking at.

"Good, you didn't drool" He happily says looking back to my frowning face.

"Your something else Blake you really are." I tell him as I use his broad shoulder as a crutch to lift my body up. Once I'm up he follows suit and we head out of the cave. It hurt like hell, once again, walking on my burned up legs.

When we get to the opening of the cave, Bell puts his hand out in front of me and then walks outside.

"It's all clear" He says as he looks both ways to see if anyone else is here. "Anybody out here!? Jones!" He calls.

"We're here!" Jones calls back as Bellamy turns his head towards the voice and starts off in that direction with me following right behind.

"Lost you in the stew, where'd you go?" Bellamy asks Jones who is standing with the other guys from our group..but not Atom. I was gonna ask them where he was but they were talking.

"Made it to a cave down there, the hell was that?"

"I don't know..where's Atom?" Bellamy asks them as they all look at each other as if they thought he was with the other group.

"I thought he was with you" Jones says with his eyes practically bulging out of his head with terror. I just shake my head.

"Split up and look for him." Bell instructs as we all go our separate ways. I slowly walk in a different direction than everyone else, kicking leaves up in the air that are lying on the ground. I walk for a bit more before closing my eyes and leaning against a tree. I inhaled the clear air that I had missed out on because of my time in the cave. I was going to turn back around to find the group when I heard coughing, really weak, silent coughing.

"Hello?" I ask nobody in particular as I take a cautious step forward. Then I see someone lying on the ground ahead as I pick up the pace and walk over to them. As soon as I'm close enough I notice that it's Atom. The person in the fog was Atom, but I couldn't get to him in time. My first instinct was to scream, like really loudly, and that's what I did. His whole body was covered in red blisters and he looked bloody as anything. I couldn't even imagine how much suffering he was going through right now. I got burnt but nowhere close to this. He was in the fog the whole day and night.

A hand on my shoulder brings me out of my thoughts as I look up to see Bellamy just staring at Atom with the same shocked expression I had.

"Son of a bitch..Atom!" He mumbles and then yells as he approaches Atom. He slowly falls down next to him and seems to lean down as if Atom was saying something. I come over and sit on the ground next to Bellamy, listening to Atom repeat the same phrase over and over. He was saying 'k-kill me'. My eyes widen as I look at Bellamy who is just staring at Atom with a jaw-dropped expression.

I looked down at the knife I had just pulled out of my pants pocket and I hand it to Bellamy.

"Don't be afraid" I tell him, reminding him of his own advice.

"Go back to camp" He tells the others who I had just noticed were here. "Maddie, you too"

I get up and walk backwards, still staring at Atoms trembling body. Then I see something out of the corner of my eye..Clarke. She hurries over to Atoms body and bends down next to him across from Bell.

"I heard screams" She tells Bell as they look at each other.

"Maddie found him..I sent her back to camp." He replies shaking his head out out of disapproval.

"You sure about that?" She asks jolting her head over to me, still in plain sight but pretty far from them. I immediately twist myself around and stare at the nearest tree.

"This tree is so pretty" I tell myself pretending to admire a normal brown trunk.

"Maddie camp..now!" Bellamy commands with his usual loud voice.

"I'm going!" I yell back as I put my hands up in surrender and make my way back to camp.

I eventually found the light that the fire made from camp after getting lost multiple times through those dang woods. It was now pitch black out when I finally got there, dragging my sore body through the entrance of camp.

"MY WHAT..MY WHAT!?" I heard a loud angry voice from over near the fire. I walked over to see what was going on and saw Bellamy with his hands around Murphy's jacket collar. I took a couple steps back with my mouth wide open.

"Your little sister" Murphy snaps back as he pulls away from Bellamy's grip aggressively.

"Yeah that's right, my little sister." Bellamy tells him. "Got anything else you wanna say about her?"

"Nothing...sorry" Murphy tells him, but by his face he wasn't the slightest bit sorry just angry and frustrated.

Bell steps back and looks over to something on the ground.

"Get him out of here" He orders these two boys by the object on the ground. I come closer and notice that it is Atom's body underneath a blanket.

"I'm going on a picnic..but now I can't bring you" I mumble to myself as I turn around and walk over to the nearest tree.
