I crouch down next to Octavia who doesn't have a gun, just a sword. To her right is Miller who looks like he's ready to shoot at the first thing he sees.
"All foxholes listen up." Bellamy's voice comes through the walkie talkie. "Keep your eyes and ears open. Inflict casualties, as many as possible. You can hold them off long enough to make them turn back. That's the plan."
"Hey Miller, you got an extra gun?" I ask from next to Octavia.
"You're actually fighting?" He asks looking at me in shock.
"Don't sound so surprised just hand me whatever you got."
He shakes his head. "Don't got an extra, there's more in camp though, or you could always go without one and use a sword like this one here." He motions to Octavia.
"I only have one sword, you have one Mads?" She asks.
"Nah only a fake one that Lincoln gave me."
"Lincoln?" A new voice joins in. I hate that voice. I turn around and see blondie smirking with his gun in his hands.
"Oh great it's you." I say rolling my eyes and leaning my elbow against the wooden barrier in front of me.
"So that's what your little secret was. You were sneaking off to be with that grounder."
"Cori back off." Octavia scolds getting up into his face. I couldn't really hear her on top of my heart pounding through my chest in fear of him knowing.
"I'm sorry...Cork?" I ask hoping I heard right as I feel the laughter accumulate, begging to come out.
"The hell did you just call me, it's Cori." He annunciates shooting me a glare.
"Yeah I'm not calling you that, I like Cork better, it suites you."
"How about I shove a cork into that hole in your face." He shouts taking a step closer but I stand up and glare at him. Where would he even get a cork?
"Woah there, calm your nuts child." I say putting my hands up. I give him the up-down look. "Or are we talkin' raisins?"
"Damn." Miller mumbles to himself.
"This isn't even relevant." Cori shoots back, embarrassment and anger compiled onto his face.
"I know but it was in my head filled with insults just for you...feel special."
"Your soon to be bashed in head if you don't shut up." I may have a concussion, if he laid a finger on my head that would be the last thing he touched.
"I'd like to see you try, but remember what happened last time you threatened me."
"Wait what happened?" Octavia asks with her hand pressed up against Cori's chest.
"Maddie hit the barrel of my gun into the back of his head." Miller says continuing to look into the woods like we all should have been doing. "Knocked him right out."
"Fist bump it." Octavia says reaching her fist towards me which I gladly return.
"Lucky hit, I had my back towards her."
"Hey Cori how about you hand me your gun since I know how to use it better than you." I sass holding out my hand.
"That'll be the day." He says veering around Octavia and crouching down on the other side of Miller.
I scoff and go back to camp in hopes to find a gun.
Fortunately there's a whole pile of guns right in the center of camp. I grab one and turn around to head back through the tunnel when I see a bunch of charcoal around the once brightly lit fire. I go over to it and pick up a tiny piece of grimy charcoal in my hand and rub it between my fingers. It turned into dust and left some residue on my hand, giving me an idea. I grab a chunk of charcoal and brush it against my cheeks horizontally, creating two black lines. If I was gonna act like a warrior, I at least needed some kind of war paint.
