It was my first day at South Shore High school. I usually am a very bold girl. But that day was just not my cup of tea. I was very nervous. The scariest part was not that I was new, but that I had heard stories about the bullying freshers were subjected to. By bullying, I mean 'Extreme Bullying'. Like 'Had to get admitted to a hospital' kind of bullying. I knew I wouldn't survive even a day in such a situation. Let's just hope I don't run into one of those bullies.
I was on my way to the locker. As I was new, I obviously did not have much stuff in there. But the other students had their lockers packed with stuff. It was mostly just junk , like half-eaten bags of chips, crushed paper etc.
I always like my stuff organized and easy to find. So I put my books there in an orderly manner. I could just stand there and organize my locker for hours, but the sharp and almost deafening bell had me rushing to my classroom. I ran through the gigantic halls of my new school, where it would be very easy for me to get lost, given such a large place like South Shore. The janitor was kind enough to guide me to my class. But I was already late. What an amazing way to make a first impression. I went inside. The teacher stood there staring at me and it made the entire class stare at me too. I don't know if it was because I was new or late. I apologized for being late and quickly scanned the class to find an empty seat. I was able to find a seat in the front half of the class. I quickly went and sat down.
I smiled at my bench-mate, expecting a smile back but did not get any.
"Hey", I said, as I extended a hand to shake.
"Hello", she said, in the most gloomy tone, declining my offer for a handshake.
"Kate", I said, as I awkwardly put my hand down.
"Charlette", she said, in a gloomier tone.
Charlette was really not interested in talking to me, but hey it's my first day here and I am already here making friends. Well, kinda. But, wow. However, Mr.Cage, my new Physics teacher did not seem to like anyone 'not paying attention' to his class.
Mr.Cage cleared his throat trying to gather as much attention as he could. "Class, today we will be seeing chapter 9. Everybody turn to page number 345".
Physics went by pretty quick. So did the rest of my day. No one seemed to notice that I was new.
I was really desperate in making new friends that day, but I was too tired to start afresh. So I searched for Charlette. Something about Charlette made me feel like I knew her. I was not able to find her anywhere. She must have left school already, or she was just hiding from me. I mean there is no reason for her to hide from me; maybe she just isn't the friends type. Something about her just seemed so weirdly mysterious to me, but hey I don't even know anyone from this school. Maybe they all like to be mysterious. I saw groups of kids roaming around in the campus, talking. But I was pretty tired so I headed straight home.

"Kate!", my little sister Sarah screamed from behind the door. I ran in and gave her a big, warm hug. Sarah is six years old. She has dark, strawberry blonde hair and a chubby face. She loves me so much and I love her just as much too. I had a little work to do so I ran to my room, changed into my PJs and sat on my large, soft and bouncy bed. I heard the doorbell ring. Let me rephrase that, I think I heard the doorbell ring. I ran downstairs to check who it was. It was the postman and he was carrying a package. For me. Who would send me a package?
"Kate! Did you buy shoes again?" , my mom yelled from the kitchen. "No, mom. I swear", I yelled back. I took the package and I rushed to my room. I sat on my bed and I never thought then, that that moment would change my life.
