Chapter - 15. The 'Others'

I opened my eyes slowly, it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the bright light. I don't know how long I've been here.

Unlike the last time, I was in a hospital now. I felt a sting in my hand. I lifted my arm and saw an IV connected to my hand. I felt the part of my head where I got hit. I think I've gotten stitches. I can't remember anything after being hit by a metal object. I'm sure it wasn't something on the kitchen wall because I know this house well enough to not run into its walls.

I tried to get up from the hospital bed but I was too weak for it. I can't believe someone broke into the house and hit me. Now that I think of it, feels more like the person was trying to kill me.

A women in a nurse uniform entered the room, she saw me awake and said, "Oh goodie, your awake."

"How long have I been like this?" I asked faintly.

"Its been about 6 days, honey" she said.

"Six days?! What happened to the others? Are they okay? What about my parents" I panicked.

"Relax honey, everyone else is okay. The police think it was an attempt for robbery. Your parents are outside, do you want me to call them?" The kind nurse asked.

I nodded. The nurse left the room and returned with my parents. I could see the worry in their eyes. I feel bad for not letting them know the truth. They must've been worried sick.

My mom rushed near my side and planted a kiss on my forehead. I could say she was relieved.

"Katie, we're so sorry. This was our mistake. We should've never let you stay alone." My mom sobbed.

"No mom. This isn't your fault. How are you to know? If I didn't come home that early, I probably would've been safe. I feel responsible for this" I mumbled as best as I could.

"Its better she gets some rest" the nurse said politely.

My parents nodded and left the room.

"Let me know if you need anything honey", the nurse said before leaving.

"Are the others here?" I asked faintly.

"The others who, Honey?" The nurse asked confusedly.

"My...um...friends" I said half a mindedly.

"Well a few girls came by today. They came everyday that you stayed here." She replied.

"Hey, can I make a call? Can you get me my phone?" I requested.

"Sure honey, just a minute" she answered.

A few minutes later she and my mom came back with my phone. My mom started, "Charlie and her sister came by earlier sweetie. I called them as soon as you woke up. They'll be here any minute."

"We're here" Ruby announced as she walked in right after my mom finished.

"How are you feeling dear?" Zoe asked, his face filled with concern.

"I've been better" I said.

My mom and the nurse exited the room as soon as the others came in. I keep thinking of them as 'others' because I don't think I can call them friends.

"How did you know when someone came to attack me? The room was pitch black. You couldn't have seen anything." I asked weakly.

"Well, its one of the many perks of being a werewolf. Low light vision, extra sensitive hearing, send secret mind messages that no one else are supposed to hear." Ruby said as she rolled her eyes at me playfully.

I couldn't help but giggle at that. "Did you get anything about who attacked me?" I asked.

"Not yet, but we do have some upsetting/concerning news. Word got out in Port Blor and apparently, the some people are after you. So that guy who attacked you might've been one of them witches." Zoe answered.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Well, the frame is supposedly their property and it was stolen before you got it, so they might've thought you were the one who stole it." Charlie said

"But I didn't. And I don't even want it. We can return it." I replied.

"You know what? Once you get better lets all go to Port Blorenge, return the frame and we can even show you a tour of our kingdom. We can stay at the palace with our parents." Charlie proposed.

Everyone shrugged and turned toe for my approval. I know its little early for me to trust them enough to go on a road trip with them but if I didn't return this frame, I might just end up dead.

I nodded in approval and I could see excitement on Charlie's face.

A few weeks passed by peacefully. I started to go back to school as soon as I got my stitches removed. No assassins, no craziness. Just perfect harmony. Zoe decided to stay Charlie and Ruby's until our little trip to Port Blorenge.

Meanwhile, Charlie, Ruby and I were getting closer and closer. I could now call them 'friends' without hesitation. Ruby apologized to me about all the horrible things she had done to me and I really can't go poker face if someone apologized to me.

"I really didn't mean to hurt you. I just had to protect my family secret. I really want us to be friends. I'm sorry, I truly am." Ruby apologized.

However, my perfect few weeks came to an end before I knew it.

We decided to take a road trip to Port Blor before it was too late. We decided to put aside a whole week for Port Blor. I can't believe everything is going to go back to how it was before all the craziness.

We told my parents about Plort Blor. Expect the witches, we told them that it belonged to the Laqouci's and that they really wanted the frame back as they weren't supposed to give it away. My parents accepted to send me there with them, with adult supervision, which was Zoe.

Now all we have to do, is go there, return it, take a tour of the place, come back and everything will go back to normal.

Or was that too much to ask for?
