"You've got to be kidding me," I said, not ready to believe what Charlie was saying.
"You have to believe me. That is the reason we took you to the dungeon. If you were a werewolf, you would have felt it in the dungeon. It is warded completely with spells that would limit werewolves of their strengths. You would've felt like every bone in your body was being broken one by one. But you didn't which means you are not a werewolf," she said.
"No, I don't believe you. You and Ruby walked in several times but nothing happened to you.' I asked.
"That is where these necklaces come into play. These were specially made to withstand warding like that. We remove our necklaces and chain ourselves in the dungeon on every full moon, that way we won't hurt anyone else or use our powers to do so either." She replied.
I don't know whether to believe her or not. "Why should I believe you?" I asked.
"I don't expect you to. But this is the truth, believe it or not." Charlie said.
"Not." I replied harshly. I sighed heavily and added, "Why are you telling me all this now?"
"Well, I didn't have any say in that. Ruby decides everything." She replied.
"No wonder why she doesn't have any friends" I replied not knowing how harsh it would be to say something like that.
I turned to look at Ruby; she looked worried, sad even. Oh my god, did she hear me? Wolves have a superhuman vision, hearing, and sense of smell right?
"Ruby, that's not what I meant" I whispered under my breath hoping she would hear me.
"Anyways, we want to take a look at that frame that you were telling us about. Your place, after school?" Charlie asked.
"I don't know about that. I don't want werewolves roaming around my family. No offense." I said.
"I don't want to lie and say none taken, Okay, We will pick you up after school at your place." Charlie added, "Now that we know that you are not a werewolf, Zoe will no longer follow you around or anything. He will return to.....umm....he will return to wherever he came from tomorrow".
I sighed a sigh of relief, "Thank god" I said out loud.
The school seems like the least of my problems now. I can't skip classes in my first semester here. All I want to do now is go home and collapse under my bedsheet. After listening to werewolf 101, I can't help but think of my home is warded too. All of my 'powers' seemed to show up only after the arrival of the frame, which had the symbol on it. Which makes sense if I am a werewolf, which I am not. But Charlie said I was something. Maybe the symbol applied to all supernatural creatures. Ugh, am I a supernatural creature too?
I can't possibly concentrate at school with all of this in my mind. So, when the bell for recess rang, I walked towards Ruby, who now stood with Charlie near the cafeteria, "I have decided to take the rest of the day off and go home. I am not feeling very well as I didn't get much sleep yesterday. I don't want anyone to follow me, I will walk home." I said very bluntly as I was reading it all out of a piece of paper. I wouldn't lie about it, I did rehearse my speech in front of the girls' room mirror.
"Okay." The both replied nonchalantly in unison.
Seriously?! I prepare a whole speech and all I get is an Okay. Well, now that I think of it, I didn't have to inform them at all. They don't own my life. I didn't say anything and turned to leave. Then suddenly I remembered, "I can't meet you with the frame today. Maybe I can show you some other day."
I didn't hear a reply so I continued walking forward, towards the exit before stopping near the office and informing my illness. Well, I had to say something at the office or they would call my parents when they see am missing. My parents would freak out and it would lead to a whole series of events which I didn't want to face after the day I just had.
I started walking towards my house which was only a couple of blocks from my school. The road was oddly remote. Not a single person in sight. The whole time, I felt like someone was following me, staring at me. I turned back to check multiple times but found no one. My head started to ache. Oh my god, not now, not another vision. Thankfully, it wasn't a vision. But I felt the constant pain in my temples. Suddenly, the bright rays of sunlight were engulfed by the dark storm clouds. I felt a drop of water hit the bridge of my nose, I ran when I saw my house in the corner of the block. Fortunately, I was able to get to my house before the downpour.
My house was empty as it was still noon. My parents would've been at work and my sister at school. I called my mom and informed her that I got home early. She asked me how I liked the sleepover at Charlie's. I replied with a 'not bad' and hung up.
I went up to my room and quickly changed into some of my clothes, which also seemed like the perfect opportunity to ditch the clothes that they gave me. The smell of the familiar detergent made me calmer. I rested my chin on the cold windowsill and stared out through my window. A foggy silhouette of a man caught my eye. I couldn't see clearly because of the mild drizzle that made my vision hazy. The figure seemed to be closer to my house than I thought. All I could see was a man in a black sweatshirt and dark blue jeans looking up at me.
